Karen Russell, author of Swamplandia, is going to be our first author for our High Tea Series featuring great women authors. Karen's debut novel Swamplandia was nominated for a Pulitzer if you can believe that. Her new book is called Vampires in the Lemon Grove. If you want to attend, we'd love to have you. We just relocated our High Teas to Hotel La Rose in Railroad Square in Santa Rosa. Yes, this is one of our ticketed events but it does include the new book ( $24.95) and a delicious High Tea meal catered by Tudor Rose High Tea. The Meetup was fabulous! Karen Russell wows. Amazing, literate, funny, engaging...we adored her. So much fun. It was a great turnout of 35 people, who talked books while sipping tea and nibbling finger sandwiches. Karen signed her books and chatted everyone up. She's a rising star and I look forward to her next book.

So sorry. I hear you but we're locked in at the site and the cost at this point. We've got 25 people coming right now and the ticket includes the book which is about $27 with tax. The rest goes to pay for the venue and the amazing meal planned and catered by Tudor Rose High Tea (who will be opening a new location at the old Sawyer's site on 4th in April). Tudor Rose proprietor Angela Grant is English and just told me this morning that she has some exciting things planned for us. It's a dinner a la High Tea style. Still time to get your tickets if you'd like to attend.

I would love to attend this -- I've read Swamplandia and will read Russell's new book. But $50 is just too much. If there were a non-meal option for a low fee, I would say yes.

Sorry, this one is $50 and includes the cost of the tea meal and the book. I'll be posting the free events as well. For instance, Joyce Carol Oates is coming to our Petaluma store in April and that is free. Most of the events are. Sorry for the confusion. Will post that first next time.

Just found out that Karen's book Swamplandia is going to be made into an HBO television show which means a year from now, Karen is going to be very famous indeed. :)

We said to ourselves, what kind of event would we like to go to? And the High Teas were it. This is a great event to bring your girlfriends or book club members.
