Tuesday evening, Tom, Chris, Judy, Jan, Irene, Cathy, Colette and Nancy met in the store classroom to discuss plans for the coming months. We all imbibed in delicious appetizers provided by Irene. And wine. The delicious cheesy bites were made with Pennyroyal’s award winning cheeses. Thank you so much.

Here are the results of our laborious discussions with meeting dates given if available.

July 22 (Tuesday) Tom will pair a cheese tasting around Italy and the Corsican Islands with some episodes of Will Studd's "Cheese Slices" program that highlight them. Like our other events for movie night, this would start around 6 with the nibbles, and begin the movies by 7 pm running as long as people want, but in general we stop by 9 pm. The classroom comfortable holds 30 people for this event, but we still need reservations because the club is paying up to $125.00 for the cheese depending on reservations. Please bring food offerings for about 6 people, including anything you like: bread, vegies, fruit, wine, beer, meat, and salads. We provide service supplies.

August 16 or 17 (Saturday or Sunday) Nancy will try to arrange a group tour of Achadinha Cheese in Petaluma. If that isn’t available, Cowgirl Creamery in Petaluma and/or Andante Dairy are on our list to contact as well. We should get a very personal tour at Achadinha that includes some of the cheese making facility. I have been to Cowgirl and it is a bit industrial in terms of traveling around the outside of the cheese make room and a taste at the backdoor on the way out, but it may have improved as that was several years back.

If we cannot arrange a tour in August, we may plan a class with hands on cheesemaking, although our preference would be to lead off the year 2015 with this as a January class. (To entice new members to a free cheesemaking class. Free if they pay dues, haha).

September there will be no meeting.

October mid-month, (weeknight) Jan will be contacting a Cheese monger to bring us cheeses of Italy for a tasting and discussion of cheese styles. The fee is $5.00 to $10.00 a person depending on our negotiations.

November we will not be meeting, but we will release the details of another cheese comparison we would like to do. Volunteers would make a recipe with only one component altered, and the focus would be rinds. So there are some details to work out, but we would probably begin the cheese make in November and serve the cheese in February or March. We want to compare the rinds from different treatments: wine, beer, oil, cocoa and a yeast-like secondary culture, Geotrichum 15. Should be as much fun as the Chèvre event we finished in May, which was very educational. Takes a bit of cooperation and volunteers, but we can do this.

December (potentially a Friday, 12th) End of year festival party to celebrate our growing friendships and our improving cheesemaking. Evening of fun and food and libation, which will hopefully be held at a member location, but can be held in the classroom.
News will be posted as plans become firm.

As always, - your cheeses will be better with age, just like us!
Cheers,
Nancy
