As increasingly demented dictator (organizer) of this group, I have agreed to a "coup" that hanged the title from "Secularists" to "Freethinkers." I am confident that either this name will last for a year or so, or God will strike me dead for allowing it to happen. (change made January 18, 2013). If you are unhappy about it, start your own group. You are free to think.
Not everyone on Whidbey Island is a religious believer. There are lots of interesting , useful, and healthful things to do on Whidbey, but I am weary of always fretting about hurting someone's feelings or offending them by saying I do not believe in an imaginary deity. Once in a while I would like to be around other people who are willing to discuss controversial and difficult issues without telling me they know what "God" thinks or wants or find the Bible, Koran, or whatever an inspiring or supernaturally dictated document. The purpose of the group would be to socialize with like-minded tolerant free thinkers and find entertaining and constructive activies, and discuss interesting and controversial topics. Anyone who is interested in polite, tolerant, and uninhibited conversation about how to live in a universe without external rules, laws, and meaning, where we have to create our own meanings and rules, as well as suportiing tolerance and separation of church and state would be a fine member
I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
