Hoping to meet other non-religious people on Whidbey Island.
I am friendly terms with many religious believers. However, I am always having to muzzle my thoughts and censor my words to avoid offending. I believe people can be frank about beliefs without being offensive or insulting. I would like to meet other people who feel the same way.
I am a human being, so I have faults and occasionally lose my temper and speak intemperately. However, I have worked with people from many backgrounds usually on amiable terms and usually demonstrating respect for them. When I make an effort, I can be a good and respectful listener. I have been married to the same woman for 46 years. My daughter (now in her 40s) still speaks to me, as does her partner, and their 8-year-old daughter.
I am taking the first step of starting it. I am getting old. I will need help in getting it started and keeping it going.
Life is full of surprises. Surprise me. I was surprised how well it went. Good ideas shared. I will say "good to see you" metaphorically as I don't have the technology yet to "see" people literally, but I sort of "channeled" everyone else.
Stephen, the chances of you offending me are actually pretty thin. And if you do, I will let you know. Like you, I don't like passive-agreesive bs.
Thanks for the greet! I hope to make it to some meetings soon and look forward to meeting everyone in person. Enjoy your upcoming trips and safe travels to you.
thanks for the hello, hope to meet up in person at some point... as soon as my leg is fixed... & yes, i will raise a glass high to the Hitch!
Pleasant to get to meet you all as well. As said before I'm not a mad chatterbox and I'm sorry if it seemed like I was a little spaced out at times, I get that a bit from people. Also not one to interrupt so that doesn't much help my quiet case (so I suppose I am indeed one of the types that we had discussed) oops? But no worries, I wasn't by any means offended and I'll probably be a recurring member of the Oak Harbor meetings in the future.
Thanks for the welcome. Looking forward to meeting. Unfortunately, I have an engagement at the exact time of the next meeting, so perhaps I'll make the next one.
Thanks. It was nice to meet y'all. I enjoyed the conversations and was sorry to have to leave early but I knew the natives were hungry. I'm happy to help with things on occasion but I had become so burnt out on volunteerism that I've spent the last year or so shedding nearly everything I used to do. Consequently I am reluctant to say yes to things because that is slippery-slope for me back into the habit of being overly helpful and thus overly scheduled. :-)
A meetup in Coupeville in October sounds good. Just let me know the time and place.
Thanks Stephen, I'm looking forward to meeting you and others in the group. I do like eggs, and I think I can skateboard with them without breaking any!
I think I managed to edit my location to Oak Harbor, but it wasn't easy. I'm not sure why it had me in Langley at first. Silly. Yes, we're ONE island, many people...
