I'd say I was a novice-intermediate whisky drinker just learning a lot in the past 2 years from several guided tasting opportunities offered around NYC.
Beer: ales in particular, porters and stouts specifically. I also like a well constructed cocktail and I'm a huge fan of many vodkas. Whiskey is a relatively new addition to my drinking menu.
I enjoy The Jeffrey A LOT, Blind Tiger when I can actually fit, and St. Andrews for their wide selection and excellent price pint for a dram.
Tough one! (And I wrote this question) I tend to love beef with whisky, although I have done Japanese whiskey with grilled sea food. I'm a big fan of oysters with whiskys, which means Crave Fishbar could be a great choice. Capital Grill on 51st has an outstanding whisk(e) selection but is on the pricey side.
I have been drinking and making craft ales since 1994 and I recently developed a real taste for and interest in whiskey (very partial to Blanton's and Belvenie's Double Wood), so this group will be right up my alley!
Extremely friendly people, very welcoming of new members. The events are diverse, interesting and fun.
