I had a great time -- and i'm certainly looking forward to the next one.

The book was great. The size of the group worked well in the space we met in. All of the members were kind and courteous.
It was so much fun to meet everyone. Looking forward to the next gathering!
Sorry, work isn't letting me go as early as planned. Enjoyed the book tho :(

Sorry I cant make this one Will make the next one
Darn, can't make it, surprise family dinner at the same time. Have fun! I'll join the next meeting.
So sorry but just found out it's a friend's birthday tomorrow--I will definitely come to the next one.

Man, I'm so bummed this is on Easter weekend. SakaMai is quite nice, and the book is a lot of fun to discuss. Hope you guys enjoy them both!

Sorry, I didn't realize this is easter weekend. I will be out of town. Hope to join next time!

I just joined the group and probably won't be able to read the book in time but would love to come for the whiskey...would that be against the rules? :)

No, that is fine

For the record, the book is short at 160 pages for the paper back edition, and I'd be happy to loan you mine if you'd like to give it a try.
0 · March 21, 2013
I can certainly give it a try--when/where would you be available for a handoff?
I will be spending quite a few hours down at Cocoa Bar in LES this Saturday starting around 11am.
Okay, I'll head down that way sometime after I get up--should I send you a message here when I'm on my way? I live on the UWS.

If you'll be there anywhere between 11am and 330pm, just come and ask for me at the bar.
Just got back to cocoa bar and they say you came and left. Sorry I missed you. I'll leave the book with them if you are close.

That's so funny! By the time I had showered and was ready to face the world today it was already 3 so I figured I'd missed my window and didn't head down--love that I got credit for showing up all the same ;) The LES is a bit of hike for me and I don't have anything else I need to do down there so you don't have to worry about it, but if you're going to be hanging around for a while I can head down to grab the book and a drink to say hi.
Damn, didn't realize this was Easter weekend and I'll be out of town. I'll look forward to next one.
Hi everybody! Very excited to meet you all next Saturday. If you don't have time to read the full book, but still want to participate in discussion or at least have an idea what we will be talking about, this is the summary of the book with some elaborations and comments: http://englishesf.wikispaces.com/file/view/Kitchen+study+guide.pdf
Excited for this Meetup! Just wondering if Hakushu Japanese Whisky will be the only whisky on offer?
1 · March 17, 2013
There are other Japanese labels. I'm not sure the new place has western ones. The new place is also known for their sake and soju, which I love as much as whisky =)
Please note location change. Flatiron room does not do cash bar and I don't want people to prepay at this point. To hold the space for our large group, there will be an automatic 22% gratuity added to the order. The Flatiron room is awesome for tastings and hopefully we can do a prepaid event there next.
Are we discussing a specific book?
0 · March 15, 2013
I believe the book is Kitchen by Yoshimoto
1 · March 15, 2013
Kitchen looks like a great book!
This sounds great and I'd like to join but don't know the details. Is there a particular book you'll be discussing?
Looking forward to meeting you all
