Guest Teacher

Sister Kathleen Reiley, Roshi

Kathleen Reiley is a Mayyknoll Sister and Zen Roshi with the Sanbo Kyodan in Japan. (a.k.a. Harada-Yasutani School). Sanbo Kyodan is an independent lay school of Japanese Zen in the Soto tradition, employing approaches from both the Rinzai and Soto schools. While the schools' tenets are based upon Buddhist teaching, not all teachers in the lineage consider themselves Buddhist.

Sister Kathleen directs about 10 sesshins a year at Shinmeikutsu, a Catholic Zen center located in the foothills of the mountain range on the western edge of Tokyo. The center was founded by Father Hugo M. Enomiya-Lassalle, a German Jesuit who lived in Japan, practiced Zen meditation for over 50 years, and spent the last 20 years of his life conducting meditation courses in Japan and Europe.

This a rare opportunity...please join us!
