Dear White Plains Zen member:
White Plains Zen is a sponsor of this year’s Buddhist Global Relief Walk to Feed the Hungry which will take place on Saturday, October 13th in Riverside Park in New York City.
Walkers will gather at 9:00 AM in Riverside Park at West 83rd Street & Riverside Drive.
This year, famed Buddhist translator and scholar Bikkhu Bodhi will lead the walk. Other guest clergy will include Rev. TK Nakagaki, Rev. Koshin Ellison, Rev. Compassion, and the Ven. Chang Ji, Ven. Guochan
There will be a qigong meditation at the beginning of the event followed by a 3.5 mile walk through Riverside Park and a free vegetarian lunch afterwards. Prizes will be awarded to the top fundraisers.
The walk raises money for Buddhist Global Relief’s programs to feed the hungry, educate the poor, and reduce suffering in Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Cambodia, India, Kenya, Niger, Haiti, and here in the United States. This year Buddhist Global Relief provided a grant to City Harvest, Inc. in NYC for their Healthy Neighborhood Program.
White Plains Zen has set a fund raising goal of $500. You can donate through the White Plains Zen donation page .
It would be wonderful if as many White Plains Zen sangha members as possible could participate together on the walk. If you would like to sign up to walk, or if you would like to create your own fund raising page to raise donations from your friends and family, you can do so by registering at Buddhist Global Relief.
Remember to sign up as part of the White Plains Zen Team if you register!
Other sponsoring organizations include the Chuang Yen Monastery, the Buddhist Council of New York, the NY Buddhist Church, the NY Zen Center of Contemplative Care, the Village Zendo, and the Dorje Ling Buddhist Center.
Yours in the Dharma,
