Enzymes and GMOs: How Food Can Help or Hurt Your Health

On February 15th, the Nutrition & Health Series will hold its first meeting of the new year with two speakers who have both recovered from disabling chronic disease through better nutrition.

We begin with Toya Tanis, founder of New Family Naturals and the Reston Organic Coop.  Already in the natural foods business for several years, a protracted gastrointestinal disorder led her to focus more on nutrition as a healing strategy, especially with enzymes, raw foods, and green juicing.  She uses her business as a platform for carrying the message on nutrition and health.

In the second half of the program, Dara Jones will share her journey back to health from a disabling autoimmune disease.  After conventional medicine had failed to help, she began to research nutrition both as the source of her illness and the path back to health.  Dara decided to tell her story and share her research connecting GMOs with chronic disease.  Click here for more about her story and the book.  Her e-book, Foreign Invaders, is available on Amazon for $2.99.  You don't need a Kindle to read it.  Once purchased, you can read it using Amazon's Kindle Cloud Reader.

Dara will be interviewed by Heba Saleh, an entepreneur, blogger and food researcher.  Her two businesses are EatLuv and MidEats.  Her blog is My Life In a Pyramid.

As with last year, our snack table will be provisioned by Mom’s Organic Market in Herndon (thanks, Mom!).  Toya will also have her juicing products to sample.

So much valuable, useful information from the speakers and especially from the audience. Great Q&A's.

My husband is out of town frequently but is very interested in this meeting content (and all the recent meeting topics). Question: Are you recording this meeting for future editing and playing back on YouTube or your own site? That would be invaluable to any of us who miss a meeting.

Hi Linda, my husband is a professional videographer. He and his partner were kind enough to film the whole event for me last night. I think he'll have it edited and available on my youtube channel in about 2 weeks. I will post here on meetup once it's ready. - Best, Toya

The green juice was delicious and the snacks were much appreciated. I enjoyed both speakers and had some of my own questions answered about the role of enzymes in our diet and juice vs. smoothies. Great meet up!
