Wide Angle London Message Board › First Wide Angle Photography Contest and Exhibition!
Long time no see! Are you enjoying this amazing british summer?
We hope you miss our meetups as much as we do!
As you all know we were forced to find a new way of financing our meetups. We need money to pay for the room hire in The Photographers' Gallery but we really didn't want to force you to pay for admission. We started looking into getting a new sponsor but one day an idea came - what if we raised this money ourselves? So we decided to organise the first WIDE ANGLE LONDON PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST AND EXHIBITION!
As our meetups are all about photography and people we thought that would be a great theme - PEOPLE AROUND YOU. We want to show us pictures of people you know and love, or you just met and photographed, or even someone you see on the street. We are looking for portraits with soul or great street observations.
Together with our panel of judges we will choose the winning photograph and 30 pictures that will be included in our first EXHIBITION!
Of course there are PRIZES!
You must remember Richard Cannon, amazing celebrity and portrait photographer who gave as a presentation back in February. Richard kindly offered a spot at his workshop for the contest winner, and agreed to be one of the judges too.
Our former sponsor SmugMug.com provided a one year free subscription to a Pro account! They just launched a whole brand new SmugMug last week and it is a truly fantastic platform to build you website and galleries on. Go now and check out their website, we are totally excited abut it.
The exhibition will take place in the Blighty Workspace and Coffee (http://www.blightywor...) - a new cool co-working club in Finsburry Park that have a two floor cafe and great big back garden. And we're going to open an exhibition with a party!
Task of choosing winning photographs seems quite overwhelming so we asked couple of professionals for help:
Richard Cannon - portrait and celebrity photographer
Rossella Vanon - award winning fashion and beauty photographer
Anne Redmond - an artist and photographer
Chris Evans - not really a specialist in photography but super friendly and enthusiastic owner of the Blighty Workspace (who by the way is giving us the space absolutely for free!)
How will all this help raising funds to run the meetups?
We decided on a small submission fee - £5 per one photo. All the funds from submissions (after paypal fees) will be used to cover the cost of prints for the exhibition and go towards hiring the room for the meetups every month.
Still both of us and all our speakers will be volunteering.
We are counting on your help now - please submit photos (feel free to send as many as you want!) and spread the word about our contest with everyone you know. The more submissions we get, the more free evenings of sharing the knowledge and inspiring photography talk we can organise. Every £5 counts!
All the details and submission form is on http://WideAngleLondo...
As cheesy as it sounds - let's make it happen together :)
If you have any questions feel free to contact us directly.

Hey, I am having difficulty finding information via your link for image submission details.
I am assuming the submission is electronic because there is mention of the fee covering printing costs, etc.
Is there a link to information on physical size of image (printed and pixel dimensions)? Can we ourselves determine the printed size and mounting?
All the information is in the Contest section of the website (there's a link on the top of middle section 'enter now'), together with the file requirements.
We didn't decide on the technical details of prints yet, however we will want to keep them all the same. Due to space limitations we can assure that we won't be printing A1 though ;))
Once you get all the info there's a 'Buy Now' link that will take you to PayPal service and once transaction is completed you will be redirected to submission link.
Hope it helps!
