Jalisco-Style Dining at La Barquita

Well, we've all had Mexican food before - and Cuban, and Puerto Rican, but for really Wild Dining...

Here's a chance to try authentic Comida Jalisqueño! LA BARQUITA is a unique & friendly family-run Central-Mexican restaurant featuring authentic recipes from La Barca, Jalisco, which is about 50 miles southwest of Guadalajara on the Michoacan border just east of Lake Chapala.

I found this place last summer, and I've hosted several succesful events there. The menu is VERY extensive, including regional specialties, most cooked to order, all made on premises! Birria, mole, seafood, molcajete combos (see below), etc.

The atmosphere is homey, the accommodating service is first-rate, and the prices are surprisingly reasonable, considering portion sizes and just how marvelous everything is! Plus, they have cold Bohemia, Tecate, etc.!

They don't have a website, but here are a few recent reviews:

Ths last time I was there, I had a long talk w/ Don José (the chef) - in Spanish - about the recipes, & his wife Lupe is an effervescent gem running the front of the house! What fun & engaging restaurateurs!

So, c'mon by and indulge in something really different! It's exciting to share this with the group & I can't wait to go back!

Food was great and really inexpensive. It was a lot of fun to share
    the experience with others.

Victoria is spot on... I had to walk around to interact w/ everyone & I loved it! This was a perfect example of why we all joined this group, I reckon! Great company, non-stop repartee, and a fantastic venue! I'm so glad so many of us were there to explore this menu and enjoy this unique, cooked-to-order, amazing cuisine! The owner/chef even came out at the end to sincerely thank me for Wild Dining coming in. Thanks to everyone for making the evening such a memorable event! I hope everyone will return on his/her own.

We had a wonderful time, and everyone we met was so much fun. Looking forward to doing it again. Thank you to all my "table mates," Ben, Mary, Linda and hubby, Tom, & Jeremy. A big thanks to Ken for arranging such a nice meet up. Only one negative was that we couldn't interact with everyone since we had a large group, and 9 people were at a separate table. Maybe next time.

Jalisco state is what most of us gringos identify as "Mexico." It's the home of Tequila & Mariachi music! Here are a few links to view as a primer on the culture there (featuring my Tucson vecina Linda R.) Great music & dancing to get ya' psyched: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&v=VjeUaCAp5II&NR=1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&v=VjeUaCAp5II&NR=1
