We are an enthusiastic group of health conscious, environmentally friendly folks who enjoy taking Wild Food Foraging field trips in the Greater Sacramento area.
If you are interested in Permaculture, Sustainable Agriculture, Holistic Healing Arts, Herbology, Nutrient Dense Nutrition - you will be happy with joining our group.
We invite Botanists, Naturalists and Herbalists who have extensive training to lead our group on nature walks and forage for food.
Plant identification, taxonomy, botany - nature lore is just part of our activities. You do not need any prior background, experience or knowledge about wild foods, nutrition or nature to join - just a cheerful heart and pleasant demeanor and welcome to the party! Sac City College, ARC and CRC all offer outstanding classes - short term and full term Botany, Geology, Biology, Natural History courses which can supplement our body of knowledge in the domain of wild food foraging.
We go on field trips throughout all 4 seasons in our biome. The Greater Sacramento area is rich in wild flora and fauna with diverse micro-climates. The biological diversity of our terroir gives us the benefit of having one of the most densely populated regions of wild foods within the "Urban Grid".
Embrace your "Wild Side" - Wild Women and Wild Men of good character and demeanor are encouarged to find kinship, fellowship and friendship - we are a cheerful group of folks.
Please note - we practice sustainability and are sensitive to Fragile Eco-Systems. We never "over forage" and take only a modest amount of food from wild space. We understand flora and fauna get "First Dibs" on wild foods. We believe humans can SUPPLEMENT their diet with some wild foraged foods - but should never be greedly little piglets and hog up all the wild food. Due to over development of "Big Box" stores, office buildings, tacky-tack-ola McMansion housing tracts, strip mall construction - wild habitat has been encroached, impinged and destroyed.
The wild foods are first and foremost for the critters and wildlife - we simply nibble a bit and sustainably harvest wild foods in our local terroir.
Our organization is non-sectarian, non-profit, non-partisan. No doctrinaire, dogmatic ideologues allowed!
