“Wheel to the Sea” A challenge hike for wheelchair users and volunteer pushers

This exciting community event is especially designed to serve individuals in wheelchairs, including Iraq, Afghanistan and other military Veterans (and their families). Non-wheelchair users with minor Traumatic Brain Injury, PTSD, blindness, deafness or debilitating illnesses are also welcome to push a wheelchair or join in the event.

Fueled with a hearty breakfast, we embark on this five mile naturalist lead hike through Point

Mugu State Park. The trail includes rocky terrain, slopes and mud or stream crossings in times of wet
weather. These natural obstacles provide challenges and opportunities for team-work and trust building . The event culminates at the beach with a family style barbeque and use of specialized beach wheelchairs.

All who participate will benefit from the physical challenge, social interaction and camaraderie offered from this unique outdoor adventure!

What a glorious day! Everyone that showed up to cook, push or ride (even after the downpour) were so full of positive energy and laughter. It was great to have some water at the stream crossings again after so long without it. A few of us that don't normally experience life in a wheelchair got time in a chair this event as well. It helped give a perspective of the courage and trust it takes for these inspiring friends to go on this event. It was great to be assisted by the young men and women, active military, that volunteered their time to help us this time around as well. Everyone came away touched deeply and as one volunteer said "transformed for life"!

It was a perfect day for this hike. The rain made the trail nicely packed, free of dust. But as usual it's the people who make this event so fantastic. Thanks so much Brad, Ciana, Michael... You guys are the BEST!

We had an absolutely FABULOUS day for this " Wheel to the Sea " event. Last night's rain made the trail dust free and water was really not much of an issue at the water crossings. I am glad that I did not let the rain keep me away from our trek through the Park. We were well fed before and after the journey to the sea. Let me tell you, the sea was SOOOOOO AWESOME and I am glad that soooo many participants went into the water. I totally enjoyed myself and it was great to see so many friends that I have met over the many past events that I participated in. I give your 10 STARS this year.
