Primitive Skills/Survival Overnighter!

The seasons are changing and it is time for our Wilderness Skills Overnighter! This will be an intensive class that will cover the basics of Awareness and Survival. We will cover the four basics of food, shelter, water and fire, plus much, much more!

Activities will include:

• Fire-by-friction

• Making Shelter

• Finding and cleaning water

• Plants (For food, medicine, tools and ecology)

•  Making containers

• Making rope

• Journaling

• Animal Tracking

• Stalking and camouflage (silence and invisibility)

Bring everything that makes you comfortable: tent, tarp, cooler, sleeping bag, etc. There will be a camp to practice primitive skills, and a camp to relax, journal, eat, play games, etc.

I also had an awesome time and really enjoyed meeting everyone - didn't expect the awareness lectures to be quite so meaningful or the stalking exercises to be quite so fun! And behold, fire! Hoping to see you all again!

Just FYI, when you are searching mapquest for Boulder Canyon, make sure you search for Boulder Canyon Drive (not Road).

I am receiving some notices that people are having trouble viewing the liability waiver, questionnaire, and supply list. Please let me know if this is the case and I will personally e-mail these to you. Hope you had a good weekend. The next one will be amazing!

Later today, I will be sending out a liability waiver and instructions on where to meet and what to bring. Please get the liability waiver back to me filled out as soon as you can, as this will be your official RSVP. I am really excited to get started and can't wait to meet you all!

I sent them out as an e-mail. I will send them again as two separate e-mails. One for the Questionnaire and supply list, and another for the waiver.

They are both posted to the message boards as well.

I've never been to Gross Lake so a couple of questions as we get closer to the date:

    1. The Meetup map link and where CO 68 and Magnolia rd meet seem to be two different places. Which one is correct?

    2. Are we driving to the camp site or hiking part of the way? If driving, how "off-road" capable do our vehicles need to be?

    June 9, 2014

    • Mike J

Can I also ask, will there be water and restrooms available?

      June 9, 2014

    • Andrew

Hi Louis, I am going to be posting material later today about instructions on where to meet and driving arrangements. Essentially, we will be meeting in the Magnolia Parking lot off of Canyon Rd. at 6:45 and driving up to the main lot. If anyone has a vehicle with high clearance that does not mind hauling people and gear about a mile in, it should save a bit of time. I will have a little extra water, but bring at least 2 gallons if you can. After meeting at Magnolia, we will drive up to the lot where we will be carpooling people and gear. There are restrooms at the lot where we will be carpooling. I will send some more information today about specifics and what to bring.
