Hot Springs - Terwilliger Hot Springs

Terwilliger Hot Springs, also known quite well as Cougar Hot Springs, is a heavily used collection of pools to enjoy a relaxing soak in. Within a close drive from Eugene, the springs are a great way to unwind after a busy week. There are a handful of pools, each a short distance from the source in a small cave above the top pool. The pools get a little cooler as they get further away from the spring. Very enjoyable and large enough for several individuals.

Details: I plan to leave Best Buy promptly at 8:00AM to drive up and enjoy a long soak in the hot springs for the early part of the day. Afterwards we can explore the area a bit or head to a place to eat together. This trip should be relaxing and stress free for all. If you are in a hurry to get back to town, please note it in your RSVP and try to provide your own transportation.

Directions: Take the McKenzie Highway east of Eugene about 4 miles past the small town of Blue River. Turn right after a sign marker for Cougar Reservoir onto Aufderheide Road (Forest Road 19). Follow Forest Road 19 for 7.5 miles to a parking lot on the left. Cross the road and follow the path about a half mile towards the pools.

Fees and Regulations: There is a small fee of $6 per person for the hot springs. The hot springs are quite nice and worth the fee. The Forest Service has really worked hard to keep the place well kept over the last several years.

I have been trying to get my yard reseeded. Been fighting some smart & persistent dogs that keep figuring out how to get thru. I think finally didi it. Want to get done before rain that is due on Monday to help them grow. Hopefully I can make it on the next trip

An honest question, and not just for or about this one trip. If I am unable to attend, for whatever reason, what would be preferred? Just like each and every person on here, things in my life change as well. My schedule, my plans, things with family, funds, and much more. I volunteer my time, and I love getting outdoors as much as I can. So, there are a few options. If I can't attend I can simply cancel and delete the entire trip. Second, I cancel and those that want to go can still go and have a good time. Third, I find a substitute leader and the trip goes as originally planned. Your suggestions are appreciated.

We'll talk more about this later. I'm still willing to go if the others are. Not really worth it unless there is at least a full car

Not entirely certain, but I may join you all.
    If so, leaving from Eugene.
    Room for three.

I have family obligations that have come up as of today, and I will not be able to attend. I apologize for any inconvenience that this may of caused.

Things happen. Some things I can control, some that I can't. My schedule and plans can change just like everyone else. It just has more affect.

So Wendy and Kathy, the leader of the group bailed. Are either of you thinking of not going? I'm still up for it if you are going. Let me know before Sunday morning. Thanks

I will be driving and staying at the hot spring for awhile. I enjoy being able to soak and relax there for most of the early morning and then head to eat. I have room for three others, along with gear. I'm looking forward to enjoying a great day at the springs.

I agree Matt. Shotgun! I'm tired of being the chauffeur. Takodas afterwards?

      1 · March 18, 2014

Takoda's sounds good to me. One of these trips up there, I would like to do some kind of picnic. Either on the other side of the reservoir, at Echo, or somewhere along the McKenzie. See what people think.

    Hi,
I attempted to go last Sunday around noon and it was pack, 15 cars there already. The guy at the gate said there was already 30-40 people there- so we decided against it. Has anyone been at 9or 9.30 in the morning and found it less like a bunch of sardines squisehed in a can?!

Best Buy is a little far for me, anyone coming from Eugene able to meet me on Franklin Blvd by Market of CHoice? Or better still Laurel Hill Valley, the East side of Hendricks Park?

      March 20, 2014

    • Matthew H.

I live in Eugene. I can pick you up by the Market of Choice, or you can send me an email of an address. Meet at 7:00AM? My number is[masked]

I've suddenly discovered I'm having too many errands to do next week to know if a trip up there is worth it, but thank you very much for the offer.

Going on this trip to Cougar Reservoir is entirely conditioned on whether or not I can get carpool ride that can accomodate a large back pack on a 1 way trip, otherwise I will find another way to get up there some other day. I am an experienced backpacker with some survival skills, adequate clothing and boots and gear to find campsites and accomodate myself overnights safely.

    1 · March 17, 2014

    • Matthew H.

We should be able to accommodate you, for a small fee towards gas getting you up there.

From another meetup page, the bike ride[masked], Is this the same contact number for the hot springs trip? : "Contact: Matthew Howell - (541)[masked]'

    March 17, 2014

  • spiralcosmosart

I'm not finding any contact phone numbers available on this page nor on Matthew Howell's page nor any other page. Could you please post that?

    March 17, 2014

    • Matthew H.

My number is usually listed for each event I organize, I must of cut it out when copying this event over from last time. It's the same as the number you found above.

  • spiralcosmosart

Is there anyway you can accomodate someone intending a 1 way trip with a large backpack?

    March 17, 2014

    • Matthew H.

It could be possible. Will see how much room we have. You do know that there is no dispersed camping allowed around the hot springs?

      March 17, 2014

  • Wendy

I gather should pack a picnic lunch?

    March 17, 2014

    • Matthew H.

A small lunch or snacks in a backpack will be just fine.
