Backpacking - South Sister

Full details will be discussed with those that are serious about wanting to hike up South Sister and camp at either Moraine Lake, or on the summit of South Sister, if weather permits.

South Sister is a very challenging hike with close to 5000' of elevation gain in 5 miles.  I will require knowing each person's ability and experience prior to allowing them to attend this trip.

I hope to leave town Friday evening, drive over to the Green Lakes Trailhead, along the Cascade Lakes Highway.  From there we will hike in 4 miles, using our headlamps, to find a spot to camp at Moraine Lake.  Saturday morning we will rise early and summit South Sister.  Those that feel comfortable can decide to camp on the summit.  Sunday we will break camp and head out the way we came.

This is not a beginners hike.  Absolutely no dogs allowed.

If I feel any person that signs up is not able to make it to the summit, due to any reason, their spot will be given to someone else.  The decision will be made due to safety and liability.

A get together for those wanting to attend will be held sometime prior to the trip, to go over gear and logistics of the trip.  Please be willing to attend, to be on the same page as everyone else.

    Hi,
Will anyone be coming from Eugene to the meeting place in Springfield? I would love a ride since I don't have a car. I live the East side of Hendricks park, about 5 min drive from Market of Choice on Franklin. Please call me on:[masked]
    Thanks! Chanah

Planned logistics for the trip. Leave Best Buy shortly after 6:00PM. Please be on time. Call or text me, if running late. We will drive to the Green Lakes Trailhead, which should take about two and half hours. Depends on construction, and weekend traffic. Try to bring something to eat on the road. Once to the trailhead, we will use headlamps to hike in and set up camp at Moraine Lake. That might be around 10:30PM, or later. We will rise and fuel up with a good breakfast, make sure we all have enough water, and snacks, and head off for the summit. I hope that will be before 7:00AM. Hike before it gets hot, and allow time to enjoy the hike, and time spent on the summit. I plan to take pictures, as well as film. I intend to enjoy my time on the summit, before heading back down. Relax back at camp, enjoy dinner together. Head out in the morning, in hopes of returning to town by 2:00PM. Can take two cars if someone wants to eat in Oakridge on the way home.

No worries. It sounds like Rob will also be there a little after 6:00. I'm excited for the trip. Will bring along my tent, if anyone wants to share. I don't mind carrying it. Otherwise, I also have my hammock.

Thanks. Foot is doing well. Resting it was the right thing to do. Hope to get in some hikes to test it before the big hike.

Due to limited space at the campsites, I am limiting this trip to just 8 people. Tent sharing is highly recommended.
