Hiking - Bald Hill

Bald Hill is located in Corvallis, on the far west side of town. The path leading into the 284 acres natural area may be accessed from 3 locations: a path next to the Benton County Fairgrounds, behind the gate off of Oak Creek Rd, and at an entrance off of Reservoir Rd.

Bald Hill Natural Area is a favorite of Corvallis residents. This park offers both a moderately level, 1.5 mile multi-modal path along the base of the hill and several miles of dirt and gravel foot trails that circle and climb to the summit of the hill, as well as connect to the Mulkey Creek trail and Fitton Green Natural Area. The trails pass through varied habitats of upland prairie, oak savannah, oak woodlands, riparian areas and wetlands.

I plan on hiking to the summit from the bike path, then heading to Block 15 for a late lunch, if anyone else is interested.

An enjoyable Sunday afternoon hike. Wet, and some muddy spots, but not anything that wold ruin a good hike. Was good to get outside.

My son has decided to mostly stay at his college apartment (Corvallis) for winter break, keep his roommate company. But, as I would love to see more of him, might see if he'd like to go. I'll rsvp after I check with him.

It worked when I just clicked on it. If you come into Corvallis on HWY 34, follow that to 53rd St. and take a right. Right near the fairgrounds and horse arena, turn left on Reservoir Rd. Trailhead on that road, on the right side. I can als make it where we just meet at the Safeway on the corner of HWY 34 and 53rd St. Let me know what works for you, as well as for others. I don't always trust the maps on here, but I do try to at least give the right location and address for people to find it with.

Kind of a long drive for a fairly short hike if you're coming from the Eugene area. Certainly nice views from the top when it isn't foggy or raining. I might do Bald Hill since it is local for me. You might consider McCulloch Peak sometime if you haven't been up there. I think it is the closest meaty hike to Corvallis. Hit it from the Oak Creek Road access to McDonald Forest. http://www.localhikes.com/Hikes/MccullochPeak_1890.asp http://www.cof.orst.edu/cf/recreation/south_mc_map.php

I'll be in Corvallis for the weekend, and figured since I will be there I could do a day hike with the members that live up that way. I do agree that it is a long drive for those in Eugene to come up for the short hike. This is aimed more for those living around Corvallis, but all are welcome to come.

Sounds good, no point in not trying something just because it might not be ideal for everybody! There's a good chance I'll go.
