Willamette Valley Outdoors Winter Festival - Salt Creek Falls SnoPark

Bring the whole family for a day of sledding, snowshoeing, building snowmen, playing in the snow, drinking hot chocolate and enjoying an assortment of good food with friends.

The Winter Festival will be family friendly and will take place at the Salt Creek Falls Snow Park, off Highway 58, near Willamette Pass.

I feel that it has enough hills and trails for us to enjoy. I would like to suggest the food be potluck style, as if tailgating in the snow, so to speak. I have a stove and we can make a large hearty pot of chili or a soup.

I will be bringing a stove to cook chili and soup on, a cooler of drinks, and bowls and utensils. Please bring your own additional beverages, snacks, and something to share at the potluck. The event will run from about 9:00AM until 4:00PM. Snow Park Permits are required, and are available for the day. You can get them at REI, Bi-Mart, Berg's, and the Backcountry Ski Patrol's warming hut at the Gold Lake Snow Park.

Gas money depends a little bit on gas mileage of the vehicle and amount of passengers. This trip is about 150 miles round trip. Please be willing to chip in $10 or more for riding with three to four others. The day pass is to be on the vehicle and is about $5 per day, or $20 for a year pass.

I hope to see you there, and be sure to bring your family and friends.

Hi Matthew, it was me! We ended up skiing over at Gold Lakes Sno Park, had a GREAT day, and I would have never visited these two Sno parks if it weren't for this Meetup :0), thank you! I saw plenty of tubers that looked like they were having fun, I did this with my granddaughter over Christmas break from school : ). Great day, nice folks!

I saw a blue Subaru go through the parking lot, but no one got out or said anything. I was heading to the hill to do some tubing. We had a tent set up and food cooking. If it was you, I'm sorry I missed you. Was out having fun. Hope to see you another time.

I had a lot of fun. Enjoyed the snowshoeing trip to see the waterfalls. Great food to enjoy and some tubing, that I hadn't done in over 20 years. Good to meet new members and have them join right in. I look forward to seeing everyone at an event again soon. Thanks for coming.

I really would love to join. I live in the Santa Clara area. I just need to see where finances stand after bills tomorrow. I would love to make a vegan-friendly recipe if no one is against it :-)

Nothing against vegan friendly meals. Hope you can make it.

It looks like I will be riding up with my brother, Justin, in his truck. We will have a pop up canopy with us, a table, some chairs, a small camping stove, chili, and some dessert items. Also will have snowshoes and our snow shovels to play around in the snow some. Others have mentioned great food and it looks like it will be a fun time for everyone. Also some are bring their kids and some sleds. See you all Saturday.

It looks like Justin will be bringing chili, so I will be making some different cookies. Noticed I had some holiday packages of cookies left. Will see what else I can grab. Katie is bringing stuff for hot cocoa, Steve and Susanna are bringing finger food and veggies, Melanie mentioned Dave's bread, Isabelle is doing eggs. I will be checking with others that haven't replied yet.

I know the time to meet is early, I understand that. However I also know it takes over an hour to get to where we are going, and I prefer to go a bit slower when the road is icy. It allows us to get there safely. I hope people understand that is why sometimes the meeting times are so early. Also it gets dark early, so it maximizes the day.

Melanie, we'll meet you up there. I know 7:00AM is early, but we will be leaving Best Buy at 7:30AM and arriving up at the snow park around 9:00AM. I like to get a jump on the day and enjoy it.

That's probably a good thing since it may start to rain once the weather warms up later. I think I'll bring Dave's hearty peace bomb bread sliced up and some kind of spreadable dip.

Thanks for the replies. I hope to bring a pop up canopy for us to set up by Lou's truck or somewhere close. Might grab a few folding chairs for us. Or just sculpt a few seats in the snow. I'm looking forward to a fun time enjoying the snow, meeting some new people and seeing some good friends.

I talked to a few others about the event, and it looks like there will be a few sleds, and tubes. I will be bringing my snowshoes to explore around the area some. I also look forward to maybe some sledding and making a snow fort or snowmen. Anyone bringing finger food or a dessert? I still plan on making soup, but I'm curious as to how many would eat Minestrone with Italian sausage? Don't think the recipe will feed 20 people. I would like to hear back from some of the others that have signed up. Thanks.

    January 21, 2013

Steven and I are not bringing snowshoes, but hope to bring a snow disk. Else, snowball fights, snow people, and snow Angels will have to suffice.

As the event gets closer I'd just like to add a few updates. Those that have signed up, please bring something to share for the lunch, if possible. Lunch will be potluck style, and I'm hoping all members can bring something to share. Think of it as tailgating in the snow. If you have tubes, or sleds, please bring them. We can also snowshoe, or ski a few trails nearby. Also, be sure to bring cash to give to the drivers for gas, use of their vehicle, maintenance, and most importantly, for getting you there and back safely. Carpooling is a great way to save money on the price of gas, and to get us all there together. Be sure to pay your fair share to the drivers. Thanks.

Some ideas I have include a snowman building competition for various age groups, a sledding and tubing race, and possibly a chili cook off. I'm open to suggestions.
