Back by popular demand, Williamson Audubon Group is offering Lee Hoy's MORE THAN COLOR course again. Lee has revised the class into two sections: Part 1 and Part 2. This is the first class of the series.
MASTER NATURALIST ADVANCED TRAINING APPROVED COURSE
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Most beginning birders focus first and foremost on the color of a bird when attempting to ID the bird to species. However, for most birds, color can be a tricky field mark depending upon the direction of the sun, the time of year and the incredible similarity some birds share in color. So, what do we do as birders when we see a bird species with which we are not familiar? We should make a note of every possible field mark we can identify. These include the habitat, the size of the bird, unique behaviors, the shape and posture of the bird, the color of the bird, and, finally, the voice of the bird if it is vocalizing. By getting a grasp on the various field marks we can see and hear, we can advance our birdwatching skills and have much better success in the field. This class will focus on the first three (3) field marks of habitat, size and behaviors. Even if you have taken a similar course, this will go much more in-depth as we have divided the class into two parts.
