This is just an informal meetup for writers to share their original work of most genres. The writer is given the option to ask for feedback or simply use this as a platform to share their writing in an informal and friendly setting. The genre that would be welcome is poetry, short fiction including flash fiction, short stories even novel excerpts, scripts, short screenplays, travel writing etc. Since the venue will usually be a public place such as a restaurant or cafe and the writer would be required to read it aloud, stuff 'that would make others uncomfortable' will not be entertained. Specifically inflammatory writing, pornography (light erotica is fine), extreme obscenity is not welcome. Writers of any level (amateur/published/well known) from anywhere in Toronto are welcome. Even those who are not writers but would love to listen are most welcome. Some FAQs: Where would the meetups be held? The venue for the meetups is likely to be in a restaurant/pub/cafe along Yonge street between Yonge & Sheppard & the North York Center Subway station. Any plans to move the venue some place downtown which is more central? No. When do you plan to have the meetup? Frequency? We first need a critical mass of at least 5 members for the meetup. Frequency is tentatively planned fortnightly. 2nd & fourth Friday or Saturday, but that could change depending on members convenience. Any requirements from the members? The only requirement is that those who intend to share their writing must bring enough paper copies of it. Atleast half as many (plus 1) as the number of confirmations. That is, if 6 people have RSVPed, it would be good that each of those who would like to read bring 4 copies, 1 for the reader and 3 for the others. There is no fee. Yes, you heard me right, there is no fee. You only pay for the stuff you order at the venue, nothing more. Can I bring a guest? Sure. As long as they are human (no pets) and they don't become a distraction to others.
I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
