Theme: Retro bake Seventies
If you weren't born in the Seventies, this is a mouth-watering research project. If you were around then, you'll be dreaming of Wagon Wheels and wondering how they could shrink to the size they are today. And what happened to flared trousers and tie dye shirts anyway?
The Seventies were to baking what they were to music - a bit of a revolution to say the least. Black Forest gateaux, pineapple upside down cake, cheesecake, lemon meringue pie, Mississippi mud pie, lemon mousse and baked Alaska appeared. And if that wasn't enough, there was ready-made puff pastry and gelatine!
On the savoury side there were quiches, fondues, prawn cocktails, baked camembert, chicken marengo and parma wrapped ham. (I won't even start on the food celebrities of the time.)
Hit Google if you have to, but bring something Seventies to the Gooseberry Bush. You can use it to inspire a brand new dish, or rework a classic. Believe me, there is plenty of scope.
PS: Twiglets, Blue Nun and Angel Delight - just had to include them somewhere!
