Hello bakers

Theme: Australia plus...

It's Australia Day on the day of the meet up in January, so following a suggestion from member Rosemarie, I thought we'd start the New Year with a theme based on warmer places.

For food-wise inspiration, here's a list for starters: Lamingtons, Anzac cookies, pies (mainly savoury), anything "Melba" (an Australian opera singer), Tim Tams (commercial choc bars), Afghan cookies (from NZ), barbecues, Vegemite, Australian celebrity chefs, e.g. Donna Hay, Bill Granger, Greg Torode, indigenous art, your holiday, etc...you get the idea.

As usual, it's an open theme. The "plus..." refers to Austrialia's surrounding seas, so feel free to explore cuisine from these places too. Also, if you can link a bake to Australia with a story, go for it. And if you want to use Australia's art, sport or popular culture for it's visual value, then go ahead.

Look forward to seeing you there...

Regards

Patrick

PS. Since November 2013, I've instated a tip jar at our meet ups for the staff at the cafe. Suggest £1 or £2. It's not mandatory, but shows our appreciation in a tangible way.

Great afternoon despite the headache/nausea/sugar overload and wearing more than I ate. ;-) Thanks for making my hangover bearable folks and for cards and presents, mwah! X

Great conversation and baking as always, with not a Lamington in sight! Another very good meet up.

Hi all. I'm sorry I've not been back since November but a lot had happened - my hubby and I are moving house to the country so I won't be coming again. It was lovely to meet you all and I hope I'll get a baking group going in Wiltshire!

Hi Kate :-( but Wimbledon's loss will be Wiltshire's gain. All the best for life in the country! Patrick

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
