Let's meet up and go paddling

We're looking to schedule short, but refreshing, after work paddling outings on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays in July and August. We have arranged for discounts on rentals for those who don't have their own boats, paddles or PFD's through Sebago Trails Paddling Company - sebagotrails.com. We could also work on getting discounts on boxed lunches or snacks from local food businesses in our area.

We got rained out for the second time!

Unfortunately, we got rained out again. So, this meetup is cancelled. I am putting two more meetups for paddling on the board. One for this Sunday, and one for next Wednesday. Everyone do a "Sun Dance"!

Well, it's not ideal weather, but I will be there at 5 and 6 tonight.( I will be there ready to paddle at 5, and be back at the launch site at 6 so others can join us.) Anyone who wants to meet up, we can go for a quick paddle. T storms are still well off to the west; and if a family of first timers from CT can be out there today, then so can us hearty experienced Mainers!

    I will launch at 6pm

There is a big line of showers and thunderstorms stretched out across New Hampshire and Western Maine that looks to be heading in our general direction. I think it would be best and safest for us to reschedule tonight's paddle to this Wednesday, 7/10 5- 8 pm, with some starting at 6. Same place, Veterans Memorial Park on Panther Run in Raymond. I will create a new meetup for this to let everyone know. Please re-confirm with me if you need a rental kayak for Wednesday. (I will swing by the launch site in case someone didn't get this message and shows up.)

This is fine, Kim. I'll bring you one on Wednesday! We can be flexible on end time. There are options on directions to paddle that keep coming back to the starting place.

I was so hoping today would work out for me to meet you! I'm in Portland today/this evening, but will be back in Raymond off and on this week! Too bad the forecast wasn't more dependable, too!

With the forecast for thundershowers in the evening, I feel it best to cancel.. sorry hope to make the next one

Sorry. Hope to make the next trip.

Sorry won't be able to make this outing, but hoping to catch the next ones!

Based on members' feedback, we're going to push the start time to 5 pm and select Panther Run as the first meet up. There's parking, facilities, picnic tables and it's easy to find. The Good Life Market is right across the street. If others can't get there till 6, you should still join us. There are two routes that go out and back, and we can rendezvous back at the start at 6. If anyone needs a rental, call Sebago Trails Paddling Co. at[masked] no later than the day before, so we show up with the right number of boats. Rentals will be $20.00 includes kayak, paddle, pfd and delivery.

I will probably launch around 6. Are you planning to paddle out into the bay and follow the left shore out towards squaw island and return following the right shore ?

      June 26, 2013

    • Bill A.

not sure yet. But because we can paddle in two directions from this launch, probably go out at 5 in one direction, and come back past the launch at about 6 and go in the other direction, finishing up around 7:30 to 8. That's my though right now, anyway.

4:00 PM is an early time for me on weekdays. I work out of Portland. 6:00 PM might work better. I was hoping for more weekend adventures.

I'm thinking on our first paddle we might go out in 2 waves. And, I'm pretty sure there will be some weekend outings scheduled as soon as we get to know one another.

Because I work in Lewiston a 6ish paddle would work better for me during the week. Might be able to get out of work a bit earlier once in a while. Looking for some weekend outings too if others are interested in that. Glad to see this kind of a group starting up, sure as it grows we can find schedules that work well for everyone!

These after work events would hopefully lead to folks getting to know one another and plan for longer trips on weekends. We can provide discounts on kayak rentals for those who don't have their own better during the week. We hope this encourages more new people taking up paddling.

I think the staggered starting times could work well to allow a schedule fit for everyone! Allowing everyone to be a part of the outing in a time that makes it good for them! Looking forward to when the group reaches that point! :-)

I may be able to make the launch time. If not I can launch later and catch up with the group.

I'd like to try and make it. I have my own kayak, but would have to figure out a way to transport it. I love Sebago Lake, but I'd love to try paddling elsewhere too.

Any idea which lake you're thinking of for the July 8th one? Crescent Lake is pretty and has public boat access (with Raymond and Casco access points on Rt. 85). I'm flexible on time (anytime after 4pm works for me for paddling).

    June 19, 2013

    • Bill A.

We're open to suggestions on where to paddle on the 8th.

      June 19, 2013

Not sure if I can make it. My schedule is all over the place, but I will be there if it works.

    June 19, 2013

  • Bill A.

I threw out Monday July 8 at 4 pm as a way of getting things started. We can adjust days, times, and places so that it works for most members.

    June 19, 2013

  • Bill A.

That's understandable, Susan. What time would work better for you? I know that for me, 5 to 6 pm start time would be better.

    June 19, 2013

  • Susan C.

I'd love to go, but I can't get out of work and be ready to go by 4:00.

    June 18, 2013

  • Bill A.

Would you like to meet new people to enjoy an evening of paddling on the calm waters in the Sebago Lakes region?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
