Celebrate spring by paddling on Little Sebago!

As I write this, it is snowing, schools are closed and it is only about 7 degrees outside.  As a skier, I like the winter.  As a kayaker, I can't wait for spring! Scheduling a meetup now will give us all something to look forward to, and may help to get you through these cold, snowy weeks of winter. Last year we began our paddling season the 3rd week of April.  Hopefully, by the 27th of April, 2014, it will be warm and sunny.  The water will still be quite chilly, so we need to dress appropriately and take necessary precautions.  I will confirm this meetup in the week before that Sunday.  Until then, I wish you all a happy new year! May 2014 allow you to go paddling often, meet new friends and enjoy the outdoors right here in our own back yard!

Weather is still a little chilly for me so I won't be making it today. Sorry! I'm a weinie! See you another time and have fun.

It's a cold, drizzly, raw day out there, more showers moving through the area over the next few hours - not a good day to celebrate spring with a paddle on Little Sebago. I know I'm not the only one who has been looking forward to today to kick off the paddling season. So, cancelling for today, I will post our next paddle meetup within the next few days. Warm and sunny wishes to you all, see you soon!

I'll be checking the weather in the morning and make a final decision about going out. Personally I like it to be mostly sunny and at least 60*. I'll post a message at about 10:30 or 11:00. Friday was a perfect early Spring paddling day! Today was not at all. Sunday is not expected to be much better. Good news is that there will be lots of opportunities for paddling this season! and we have 92 paddlers! I'm anxious to see how many more sign up this year! It's going to be a great season!

The day and time is perfect. But the weather isn't. I'll wait for a warmer day. I hope we don't have to wait too much longer for those type of days. My plants are even anxious for the warm days. Ihope you all have fun!

I had previous plans that I just realized conflict with getting to this in a manageable timeframe. It's still cold, and with my arms making it more of a challenge, I'll look forward to meeting up with you sometime in May!

Hi Bill, I can't make it this time afterall. My daughter's riding lesson has been changed to Sunday at about the same time. Not enough time in the day! Have fun, and I will join you all on another date!

Just visited the Little Sebago Launch this afternoon. The ice is gone!!! The water is still very cold and anyone going paddling will need to dress appropriately. We all should take every precaution to paddle safely and no tipping kayaks over!!! too cold to swim!! I'll post another update on Saturday, and ask for confirmations from those needing rentals at that time. I'm wicked excited!

I have my kayak and it will be in Raymond all summer, but due to having both of my arms "rebuilt" this past winter, it may be difficult for me to get my kayak on/off my vehicle to join you. I'm trying to figure out what I should do.

Some people who participate in this meetup group rent from Sebago Trails Paddling just because they don't want to go through the hassle of transporting their own kayak. We offer special rentals to group members for only $20.00 per trip, includes boat, pfd and paddle. We might also be able to work out something where we load your kayak on our trailer in advance of the meetup and meet you at the launch site at the meetup time.

i am a beginner an would need a kayak. what is the cost of a rental?

    January 2, 2014

    • Bill A.

Hi, Kath! Welcome to the group! $20 gets you a kayak, paddle and PFD as well as delivery to the launch site. This is the special for Paddle Club Members. Normal rental rates are 40.00 per day (24 hour period) and delivery rates vary depending on how far we have to go, but range from 15.00 to[masked]

    • Bill A.

Our group includes folks from all ability and experience levels. Some have been paddling for decades and some, like you, are brand new to the activity. The paddling we do in the Sebago Lakes region is pretty easy: includes flat water lakes and ponds and very gentle current streams and rivers. There is very little white water in the area and we avoid that.
