Critical Mass

Join us for Critical Mass! It's a big bicycling event every last Friday of the month. Come on your inline skates or ride your bike. The pace is slow and it is a lot of fun.  If you skate you need to be comfortable braking, stepping over curbs and dealing with sometimes rough pavement.

As always, you skate at your own risk and you are responsible for your own safety. We recommend wearing a helmet and other protective equipment. Bring water too.

 More info:

"Some people see Critical Mass as a forum for grassroots political change. Some people see it as a protest against cars. Some people just like to ride. The Mass, however, is just that...a bunch of bike riders. You can drive a car the whole month and ride in the Mass. You can be an anarchist and ride in the Mass. The point of the Mass is the Mass, nothing more. Critical Mass has no leadership. It is a ride where no one is in charge. At any time, riders are free to leave, stay, stop, or even help out. Everyone is responsible for themselves and the Mass."

Not sure I should go...I've inly been skating since this year. I'm okay--used to skate when I was a kid.

Julia, for this event you should be comfortable stopping, skating downhill and stepping over curbs. Otherwise better come out to a skate session first. We have one on Sunday. You can always ride your bike tonight though.

Thanks, Kirsten! I'll check for the Sunday training. I'm okay with curbs but need to work on stopping and downhill.

A map flyer's been published. It's fairly long at 16miles, through SouthWest parks, ending at northerly island (over the very steep 18th street bridge).
