Wine & Food Travel's 1st Anniversary Party

Has it seriously been a year already? Last year on July 14th I started this group. It has been a blast meeting new friends from all over Los Angeles, not only enjoying good wine and food, but also fantastic conversations! 52 fabulous events later, here we are.

Chaya Downtown features a great happy hour menu. You can take the metro downtown and get silly drunk all you want. Then just hop back on the metro and go home to sleep :)

Bring your A-game, smile, good attitude and let's celebrate!

See you there -Sonya

Chaya Reviews:

"It's even better if you go during one of their Happy Hours. You essentially get double the HH menu. The izakaya menu includes yakitori skewers ($2-$3 ea), sushi rolls ($4-$7), sake sangria ($7), kirin ($4!!) and other goodies, including a muy delicioso take on Mexican corn ($5). Their regular HH has always been one of my favorites in DTLA, but I had to force myself to order from the izakaya menu since it's seasonal. With the lanterns hanging above and the feel of summer in the air, this place is a great reminder of how awesome DTLA can be."

"Chaya is another Happy Hour gem in DTLA!  This Asian fusion restaurant has a modern decor, great ambiance, and friendly staff.  If you're looking for a fancier HH spot then look no further, Chaya is your place!  During HH you'll find a more business crowd here.  Try and get there around 4:30 - 5pm because it gets pretty busy in the bar & cocktail area where they serve the HH deals.

HH Cocktails are $7, wine is $6, and beers are $4-6.  Some of the noteworthy dishes worth trying are Kobe Melt, Spicy Tuna on crispy rice, Calamari, Chicken Karaage, and Prosciutto Sandwich.  All equally delicious and worth every calorie."

Hi everyone, I'm taking the metro, anyone else getting on at the Lake station? I'd love to jump on the same train. Any idea what time the train you guys are getting on might be @ Lake? or a plan to get on a certain car? say first or last, etc. since I'm new and don't know anyone some way to recognize the group would be great and so much more fun to ride in with the group :-)
    Cheers

LC, sounds good! I can give you a call when we get on the train and you'll know when to get on. Or I can yell out "Meetup" at the platform when the train comes to Lake. LOL

Let me know the timing, I want to make the same train this time .

      August 14, 2012

I think it takes about 40 minutes to get from Pasadena to DTLA, so, let's say we meet at 4:30ish? I'm not sure what time the train leaves, but we'll figure it out :)

I can meet at Allen Station or Sierra Madre.

They like to be warned that a mob will be "showing up" so that they won't be understaffed... It can be miserable service with one server for 30+ people...

    August 13, 2012

Thanks Shelly! See you another time.

The meetup has been updated. Teri, you make a very convincing organizer. Have you considered going into politics? LOL Just Kidding.

It's a cocktail party. I like the idea of just showing up. Maybe we will just do that. I like happy hour too :)

DTLA is best because of location and choices. Really depends on the rsvp count as far as venue. Chaya is always good. Corkbar, Onyx Lounge, Pattern Bar are possible.

Chaya downtown (DTLA) is a perfect location: complimentary parking (self or valet) in the same bldg + roomy patio or indoor bar/lounge area + happy hour special all nite + beautiful & intimate setting = a WIN WIN anniversary party!

What does "downtown" actually mean? I'm in Beverly Hills - could mean anywhere along Wilshire from there....ACtually there a couple of places out this way....El Torito has a great bar area, McCormick and Schmick has a great patio bar area

I'm self employed too! Either day works for me. I think I will keep it on Saturday so we don't have to worry about work the next day....

thanks Kate, that helps. I'm self employed so all the same to me.

@Tina I'd like to do it Downtown.. I'm getting tired of the Pasadena area bars. LOL

    July 5, 2012

  • Sonya L.

OK, I'm on the fence about Saturday/Sunday. I'll think about it.

@Kate I like Perch. I'll have to reach out to them to see if we can block off a specific area... open to new places since I've already hosted an event there :)

Most people do stuff on Saturdays so they don't have to worry about working the next day. Perch would be nice if we were on the roof - but not the floor below which is the restaurant.

Cool! Don't know why everyone goes with Saturdays for events, being LA is so congested on Saturdays. thanks will see you for sure sometime--I'm newbie here.

    July 5, 2012

  • Sonya L.

Actually I agree with that! Sunday would be better especially if we have a large group. Ps: who is Dan? :)

Dan --Sunday is lot easier traffic wise to get to Downtown than Saturday...

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
