Vitiloire - meeting some wine makers in their own region...

I would like to propose a visit to the Vitiloire ! Thank you Frederic for letting me know about this event…

It’s a 2 days event in Tours in which you step out of the train station, get your wine glass (5€) and can taste as much wine as you want…
Here is a link to the event: http://vitiloire.tours.fr/

If you buy your train tickets well ahead, they are rather cheap…
For a day trip, I suggest taking an early morning train : 8h46 and come back with an evening train : 19h47 … cost of it should be around 40€-50€ (early tickets).

There is also a possibility to stay for a second day, for those who would like to explore the city/area or continue the wine tasting… in this case, train tickets might be slightly more expensive (50€-60€) and you will also have to find accommodations.

***Note that you have to buy your own tickets and we will meet in the train station…

If you are interested, please note in the comments, while registering, whether you prefer one or two days… so that we can get organized in groups (and maybe plan a dinner on Saturday evening).

This is more of an idea rather than an organized tour, so I am open for any suggestions and will try to get you as much information as possible so that we will have a great visit…

Dear all, i just got to paris and joined this meetup group.. Just wondering if this day trip is happening and whether i should book a ticket to st pierre des corps or to tours(?).. Grateful if you could respond, cheers!

welcome to the group :) Yes this trip is still happening!!! Take a ticket to Tours. The train stops at St. Pierre and than a navette or another city train goes to the central train station (I think it has to do with the adaptability of the station to the TGV).

I also got the 8:46 train from Paris and 17:31 from Tours...

Hi Jo - the changeover is at St Pierre des Corps which is actually in Tours - it's just a 6 minute shuttle to the main station where the wine fair is. The whole journey is just over an hour so probably not worth breaking up.

Thanks for answering Sean! You surely know tours better than I do :)

    Hello Ganit,
A quick question please. I looked on line to buy ticket today and saw that the 8:46 a.m. train is not direct, there is one changeover. Just wanted to make sure that this is the case so I buy the right ticket to the right town. Merci
Also, an overnight stay may be nice if others are interested. There are alternatives to hotel stay, such as airbnb. Let me know so I can do some research whether others are also interested in an overnight stay.

      Hey Jo ,
Personally I can't stay for the whole WE because I work on Sunday but I opened the possibility... So it's up to participants to decide and they can post it on this event so that those who wish to stay will be able to organize do something ...

Hey, for those of you who are sure to come...if you haven't got your tickets yet, I would highly recommend that you do so before the prems will be all sold out...

I've bought tickets for the 8:46 train from Paris, returning on the 17:31 train.

Hi, Just to let you know that I found cheap tickets for Saturday! It's only around 30 euros for a return ticket. These "prem" tickets were for a train leaving Paris at 8:46 a.m. and leaving Tours the same day at 19:47. There were only a few left, so anyone who wants to go just for the day, should book.

I can't make it this year, but this really is a great event. The TGV from Montparnasse is indeed about 60€ return, whether you come back the same day or not. However it's much cheaper (but longer) if you take the SNCF from Austerlitz. Accommodation is difficult to find during the fair. I got rooms last year at Hotel Foch which was pretty cheap. Hotel Colbert and Hotel du Cygne are also close & good value. If you do stay over, we have a great wine selection at my pub: The Pale, rue Colbert!
