Wine Class and Tasting - Barcelona in West Hartford - Cataluña, Spain wines

We just did a wine class this Saturday and it was a great experience, so let's go to another one. I'm going to ask for advance payment on this one to make life easier. $31.50 to cover the Paypal fees.

Class starts at 2:30pm, so please arrive at 2:15. Our last class started at least 20 minutes late due to latecomers. The schedule says it'll end at 4, but expect to be there until 4:30 at least.

Olives, bread and cheeses were provided last time for us to snack on.

If I get a bunch on the waitlist, I will see if we can increase our reservation.

If you RSVP and pay your way and then you are unable to attend, I will not refund your money unless you are able to find a replacement (either through the wait-list or on your own). This is important, as it looks bad if I have a bunch of no-shows under my reservation.

Wine ClassCataluña

$30/person, all inclusive

Gain in depth knowledge of the gastronomy, terroir, varietals and wine-making styles of Cataluña, Spain. This region is probably most famous for being home to the great city of Barcelona, but it is also land of Garnacha, as well as some of the most diverse, terroir-driven wines produced in Spain. Forever a crossroads between Spain and France, Cataluña houses more “Denominations of Origin” than any other Spanish community, and produces a huge array of white, rose, sparkling and red wines. One thing is for sure – Cataluña is in no shortage of talented winemakers and vine growers. Some of Spain’s most famous (and most expensive) wines hail from this area. This class will explore the ins and outs of this region with a tasting of some of Barcelona Restaurant’s favorite Catalan wines.

The style of these wine courses is designed for the beginner looking to become a professional, or an enthusiast looking to gain more knowledge and wine tasting experience. No one is born with the ability to decipher particular aromas and flavors in wine – it can only come with lots of practice, and students of these wine courses will gain great training in palate development. We discuss topics beyond the typical “abc’s,” often focusing on how to describe and understand unfamiliar wines and regions. Students of the wine class will gain experience in wine terminology, wine tasting and evaluation, wine-making techniques and styles, regions of the world, effects of climate and weather on vineyards, and over-all , interesting facts and knowledge about the wines of the world.

Typical Wine Class Schedule  – 1 ½ - 2 hours in length.

2:30pm – Class starts promptly. Begin lecture, usually 30-45 minutes in length

3:15pm – wine tasting of 7-10 wines, corresponding to subject of class

4:00pm (approximately)  – dismiss

NOTE: if you still do not want to attend, I must know before 5pm today. I have told Gretchen to charge my Paypal card for your $30 fees, so if you aren't going to attend, I need to confirm that with her ASAP.

Perhaps we should reschedule then since it looks like it may just be my husband and I, and I set this up in hopes to meet new people at this event. Please let me know options for reimbursement. Thanks!

Thanks for clarifying. I thought it was a private event that you had set up for us. Looking forward to it!

If you still don't want to go, I can refund you. But I can assure you, the fact that I'm not going should not deter you. Gretchen was a great teacher and a good hostess, paid by Barcelona. She's all you need as an organizer. And the size of the class gives you built-in opportunities to socialize. I will plan a wine tasting event for just our group separately, but I can guarantee it will not be nearly as informative as this one will be, as I don't have nearly the knowledge she does.

When you walk in, you'll give your name, note that you paid through me, and Gretchen (the wine expert) will be aware of your status, as I already talked to her. Really pretty simple, and plenty of people to meet. So I can assure you it will be a good time without me. The 4 people RSVPed here are definitely not the only people attending. Check out Global Gourmet to see the other Meetup going and then also figure there are several others attending. It's a very well attended class and very informative. Last time we went, only 3 people from my Wine and Dine group went but I met plenty of others and it wasn't lonely at all.

I'm not sure you guys understand the nature of the event. Barcelona hosts a class every couple of months that's open to the public, but you must RSVP in advance. The last class I went to had over 40 people attending. One other Meetup group has over 15 people attending. There's not really a need for me as an organizer, as you walk, in, are told where to sit, and the class is then hosted by a wine expert. You socialize with the people next to you. They will seat you with the people from your group, which will be the people listed here. Rescheduling isn't really an option unless you want to wait for another one of their classes.

And since you're not there, do we have someone else organizing?

    July 12, 2013

  • Mario

So, when we go, we just say that we're under Jocelyn's reservation, and they'll know not to charge us at the end? The last time, they charged us at the end of the class. Just want to clarify what the payment logistics should be this time.

Hi everyone - I am no longer able to attend, but I have made arrangements to make sure your Paypal payment is applied to your $30 fee at the restaurant. I'm going to give them my card number and your name. So you'll just check in with them and they'll have it that you're already paid for. Thus, I've got to close reservations by noon on Friday.

      Can I cancel also then?

If anyone is interested in doing brunch in the area beforehand, let me know.
