"Montana 1948" is our September discussion book

By Larry WatsonQuick synopsis: Montana 1948 is a 1993 novella by Larry Watson. The novella focuses on the life of young Montanan David Hayden, his family and the fictional town of Bentrock, Montana, and focuses on the struggles of a family torn between loyalty and justice.

“From the summer of my twelfth year I carry a series of images more vivid and lasting than any others of my boyhood and indelible beyond all attempts the years make to erase or fade them… “ So begins David Hayden’s story of what happened in Montana in 1948. The events of that cataclysmic summer permanently alter twelve-year-old David’s understanding of his family: his father, a small-town sheriff; his remarkably strong mother; David’s uncle Frank, a war hero and respected doctor; and the Haydens’ Sioux housekeeper, Marie Little Soldier, whose revelations turn the family’s life upside down as she relates how Frank has been molesting his female Indian patients. As their story unravels around David, he learns that truth is not what one believes it to be, that power is abused, and that sometimes one has to choose between family loyalty and justice.

Sorry I could not make it. Traffic was very slow and heavy driving home from work and I also left my windows open at home.

Not sure where you work, but the traffic was horrible. Just walked in my house to let my two doggies out, and am exhausted...or more just frustrated with that traffic. It rains and people can't drive. hehe :) You all have a drinkie-wink for me!! I just might have two drinks tonight! All enjoy!

Our October book is "The Ghosts of Chicago" by Adam Selzer. You can pick up a copy at Centuries & Sleuths, which is a couple doors west of House Red. Support a local biz!

I am still on the wait list. Shall I assume that I should just come anyway or wait for an announcement about smaller group meetings? Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Yes, do plan on coming to the discussion! We also have members who aren't in this forum but are in the Facebook group, so there's always a few more than the # shown here. (https://www.facebook.c...), which everyone is welcome to join!

We've reached the wait list point! Don't worry! One of 2 things will happen-

    1) people always cancel the day before or the day of the discussion.
If just 1 or 2 people are wait listed, come anyway, we can handle it

    2) if enough are wait listed I'll announce we'll be breaking into smaller, equal sized groups to facilitate discussion.

You must rsvp to attend. Thank you & looking forward to our upcoming discussion!
