This is a great hike to Cedar Creek Falls, also know as The Devils Punch Bowl. The highlight of the hike is, of course, the beautiful waterfall. This waterfall has a relatively short life span, growing and flowing during winter and early spring, and drying out the rest of the year.
Rating - Moderately strenuous; Elevation gain approx 1,200 ft ; 4.5 miles round trip; Hiking Time: Approx 2.5 hrs
Wear sunscreen, a hat, and bring snacks and plenty of water (2-3 liters recommended). The trip to the falls is downhill, which means the return trip is uphill.
Afterwards there will be an optional lunch in Julian before we head home.
We will meet at 9:00 am at the Park and Ride at Lake Jennings exit east of El Cajon off of I-8. The park and ride is located north of I-8 off of Blossom Rd. We will wait about 10 min for all members to show up and work out car pools. Each car will need to purchase an Adventure Pass - cost $5.
Directions to the trailhead: Drive to Pine Hills Road, which intersects Highway 78 about 1 mile west of Julian, and turn south. After 1.5 miles on Pine Hills Road, bear right on eagle peak road. After 1.4 more miles, veer right again, stayin on Eagle Peak Road. Now you face 8.2 miles of progressively poorer dirt road, parts of which become slippery and muddy in wet weather. In the end you come to the cedar creek falls trailhead.
