Exotic grapes, origins, terroirs and wines

Our next tasting will also be a group effort.

Everyone is welcome to bring in one or more wines. The only requirement is that the wine, it's origin, the grapes it's made from, the terroir or even the vintage is "exotic".  The exact definition of this is left up to you. So this is your chance to finally taste those oddities that have been lying around in the cellar for a while.. Maybe the bottle of Hárslevelű, the white with years of skincontact or the special Vin des Glaciers you smuggled out of the private tasting you had in Switzerland. And what about that special bottle of underwater aged wine or the one from one of the few wineries in Nevada, Libanon or Ireland? By now, you probably got the idea!

This meetup will take place on Saturday April 12 at 6pm. There will be some food prior to and during the tasting, so no need to eat in advance! It will be hosted by Roel in his place in Berlicum (near 's-Hertogenbosch).

Planning to attend? Then show your interest and RSVP!

The winelist will be coordinated by Roel. If you have one or more wines to bring, please let me know. But don't tell me what you're bringing! That takes away the fun of blind tasting. Just let me know the cost of the bottle(s) and what category it's (they're) in:

- bubbly
- Crisp, fresh white
- Medium to full bodied white
- Light red
- Medium to full bodied red
- Sweet or fortified

I'll try to coordinate everything so that we have about a good lineup of around 12 wines and everything is within budget.

Finally, the small-print about finances:

We share the cost of the wines that we taste. To provide the organizer(s) with a clear budget, we have decided to start asking for payment in advance. If you Rsvp'd and paid, but decide not to come, someone on the waiting list can take your place and your share will be refunded. If your payment is not received within a week of your Rsvp, your spot will be offered to the first person on the waiting list. So please, arrange for the payment immediately after your Rsvp.

Cool! And also a cool coincidence that we both selected what they call an 'orange' wine for the tasting.

    Hi Again,

Sorry I haven't replied for so long...

I am definitely coming, and will look for a 'special'bottle to bring, although the selections local to me is not great... Shall I bring a red or a white, or perhaps a bubbly? OR any other types you would like represented?

Hi Barry, You're more than welcome to join! We've got 4 spots left. No need to bring something, but we are still a few "special" wines short. So if you've got any wines that match the criteria, feel free to bring one or more in. Please drop me an e-mail in what category they fit and what the cost of the wines is so that I can fit them into our tasting. We've got about 8 wines now. Still expecting some eastern european wines to be brought in by Calin, but they haven't RSVP'ed yet..

We've got about 8 special wines so far! Still a few tasters short however. Weather permitting we'll start off in the garden with some food from the barbecue.. so don't hesitate and Rsvp!

At our last meetup a few people already had ideas and a few wines to bring in, and that is what inspired us to pick the "Exotics" theme. And we want to give everyone the chance to bring in their exotic wines and surprise the rest. But it's not a requirement! If you have anything exotic / really special in mind, please bring it in, but if you don't: no worries!
