Skepticism means that we cannot let others do the thinking for us. We should investigate all sides of an issue and come to a reasoned conclusion based on reliable evidence. An open mind is important to being a good skeptic. We should be able to revisit ideas without prejudice and re-evaluate them as new evidence comes to light.
If we cannot evaluate information on our own we run the risk of being controlled by others who may not have our best interests in mind. We need to arrive at the truth through competent independent investigation. This ability is more important than ever due to our ever evolving high tech world.
I am a high school teacher of the sciences (biology specialist). I love teaching teenagers but find it challenging to motivate them to engage in critical thinking. I would like to communicate with like minded individuals.
I like them. It appears to me that you can speak your mind and have an intelligent, reasonable exchange of ideas.
