Riley's Pancake Ride

  • Jun 13, 2010 · 8:00 AM
  • Military Ridge State Trail - Mount Horeb

Come join us for a blueberry pancake breakfast at
Riley Tavern. We will ride to Riley Tavern via the
Military Ridge State Trail. The total distance for the ride is
about 14 miles, 7 miles to our breakfast destination and 7 miles back. Riding will be at a
slow and easy pace. The trail has a
crushed limestone surface and is suitable for hybrid bikes or road bikes with wider tires. The trail runs along an abandoned railroad line and is very flat.
Plan to arrive by 8:00 AM. We will push-off promptly at 8:30 AM.
UPDATE: We now have 2 official start locations. Choose the start location that is more convenient for you. Both start locations are about 7 miles from Riley's. Both locations will use the same "arrive" and "push-off" times, listed above.
Please note in your RSVP if you will be joining from Mount Horeb or Verona.
Option 1: Mount Horeb. Meet by the depot along the Military Ridge State Trail, where the trail crosses Second Street, just south of Front Street, in Mount Horeb.
Option 2: Verona. Meet by the Verona trailhead on the east side of Verona on Highway PB. If taking Verona Rd/18-151, take the Verona exit for PB, turn left onto PB at the traffic light, and turn right at the Park and Ride sign, which is also the trailhead parking lot.
Note: A Wisconsin state trail pass is required to ride on the trail. We will stop at a self-serve station along the trail, where you may purchase a daily trail pass in case you have not yet purchased an annual trail pass.

Nice distance from Madison, excellent pancakes, friendly people. What more could you want?

I just KNOW it was great but did something yesterday and woke to a swollen right knee. Great people and I missed it and now REALLY crave the pancakes.

What a great way to have breakfast. We should do this more often.

Sounds good Dennis. I'm catching the SW Commuter Trail at Commonwealth Avenue at 7:45 and will find you at 7:55-8:00 at Midvale.

I plan to start from the Middleton Park & Ride and swing over to the Verona Park and ride by 8:30 am. Since I'm unfamiliar with the route/distance/hills, I'll leave Middleton at about 7:00am.

Ajay, Ann, and myself will be starting from the Beltine/Pacific Cycles area around 7:55AM-8:00AM. If anyone else wants to join up with us there come on out. (There is car parking at Pacific Cycles for those who want to drive there to start.) Our plan is to meet up with the Verona folks by 8:30AM for the ride to Mt. Horeb.

See Ajay's comment below for a Google map he made of the ride from Madison with distances and estimated travel times.

I'll be coming from downtown Madison. Anyone have suggestions on where we should meet? This will be my first time on the Military Ridge Trail.

I plan to start biking from the Verona trailhead at 8:00am. It is 7.1 miles to Riley from this point & 6.1 miles from Mt Horeb, so we should make it to Riley shortly after the Mt Horeb group. Here a link to the trail map: http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/land/parks/specific/militaryridge/pdfs/mrtmap04.pdf
