The Animal Ride

  • Sep 15, 2012 · 8:15 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Join us for a ride highlighted by a 1-1/2 hour walking tour of Valley of the Kings Sanctuary and Retreat, where you'll not only get to see lions and tigers and bears (Oh my!), but you'll also get to feed them right through a chain link fence. You may choose a route of either 17 or 40 miles. Both routes include the tour of Valley of the Kings. The longer route also offers a brunch stop at Millie's Restaurant, while the 17-mile riders can join the others by driving to the restaurant after their ride. The ride is entirely on paved roads. A map and cue sheet will be provided, allowing all riders to join, regardless of individual riding pace.

Valley of the Kings Sanctuary and Retreat is a private, non-profit organization, dedicated to the rescue and refuge of abused, abandoned, injured and retired exotic animals. This facility is normally not open to the public and this rare exception is being made for our ride.

A $10 (per person) donation to Valley of the Kings is requested and will be collected during our tour.

Please print-out and fill-in the VOTK Waiver, the release form that we all need to sign before our tour of Valley of the Kings. Having this form filled-out and bringing it with you on the ride will be very helpful.

8:15 AM - Gather in parking lot of Sharon Community School. Sign-in and setup bikes.

8:45 AM - Sign-in closes. Review map and cue sheet and other ride announcements.

9:00 AM - Ride!

10:00 to 10:15 AM - Arrive, via bikes, at VOTK. Group introduction to VOTK. Turn-in VOTK waivers (see above) and $10 (per person) donations.

10:30 AM to 12:00 Noon - Walking tour of VOTK.

12:00 Noon - Begin riding again.

  • Those riding the 17-mile route will arrive back in Sharon (starting point of ride) around 12:30 PM. If they wish, they may then choose to drive to Millie's to join the 40-mile riders for lunch.
  • Those riding the 40-mile route will arrive at Millie's around 1:00 PM and finish their ride around 3:30 PM.

What if we want to ride more than 17, but less than 40?

The roads in the Sharon area are great for biking. I will provide everyone with a map of our route at the beginning of the ride. If you wish to go off-route to add a few miles, you'll easily be able to do so.

Tell me about the degree of difficulty for the 40 mi ride

It's a fairly flat route, so it's less challenging route than the Amish Community Tour.
