Explore the Trails of Janesville

Janesville has a
wonderful, paved trail system, that connects their neighborhoods and parks. We'll explore the Spring Brook Trail, Kiwanis Bike Trail, Rock Trail, Peace Trail and South Connector Trail. These trails are connected by one central point, or "hub", and radiate out from this point like spokes on a wheel. Our ride will be about 30 miles, at a pace conducive to safe trail riding with other trail users. We'll stop for lunch at a local restaurant during our ride. At the end of our ride, we'll take a walking tour of
Rotary Botanical Gardens, a 20-acre non-profit botanic garden that is home to many dramatic and themed gardens. They'll be hosting a plant sale, so you may wish to consider buying a plant to take home to your own garden.
Plan to arrive between 9:00 AM and 9:30 AM. We will push-off promptly at 10:00 AM.
Directions: Take exit 175A off of I-90 to merge onto E Racine Street. Go 0.7 miles on E Racine Street. Turn left at Palmer Drive (stoplight) and go 0.7 miles. Rotary Botanical Gardens will be on your right. We'll meet in the parking lot by the Visitor's Center.

Was surprised that Janesville has such an extensive path system. Everyone was personable, especially the host who proved himself invaluable for impromptu bike repair.

ride went too fast; I wanted to do a leisurely ride in Botanica gardens, and enjoy flowers and plants, birdsong.
Spent most of the ride trying to keep up with other riders, however rider leader DID stop and wait up for group to catch up at every stop sign,
Lunch place: a greasy spoon. altho variety in menu, most items were fried.

Very Pleasant. Calming. Janesville is an easy city to navigate at crossings. The trails were smooth and not over crowded. The scenery was varied. A great way to spend a spring day.

I drive to Madison a lot going through Janesville. Janesville is just over an hour from here (Lake Villa).

BTW, from Wauconda, it took 1 hour, 40 minutes to drive up there. Janesville is 40 miles from Madison, where most of the riders are coming from, so it won't take as long for them to get there.

How late will this go? I estimate about 2 PM. That's based on a 10 AM pushoff time and a 10 MPH overall pace (including stops, etc) plus 1 hour for lunch. My guess this is the LATEST it will go. I don't think we'll take a full hour for lunch, etc... Also, the actual pace will be determined by the slowest rider. I don't have a set pace in mind. Then, everyone can tour the Botanical Gardens for as long as they wish.

Marie, (or anypne else...JEFF??) the drive is only about an hour from me. If I go and you want to meet in Lake Villa, we can carpool Saturday morning and back Saturday afternoon.

Ron, how late is this going to go? I would like to do it but I have a concert in Rosemont to go to that night.

thanks for the post abt motels, Ron.
anyone else driving up there Friday nite?

Motels in the area can be found at:
    http://www.janesvillecvb.com/
Baymont Inn (off the Interstate at exit 175B) is the closest to the start of the ride. The motels at exit 171 are closer to most of the eating and shopping destinations in Janesville. The map on the Janesville CVB web site shows where the motels are located.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
