The Demise of Democracy

As Americans, we pride ourselves on our form of government. But is it the best form of government for all peoples, regardless of culture? Is it even the best form of government for our own people, given the challenges of the modern world? In what ways does it / should it differ from what the founding fathers imagined when our current form of government was established?

Far and away the most informative Meetup I've attended. Such fantastic group knowledge and participation. Could we do one each week?!

I thought it was amazing that the people in the group who seemed to have emotionally charged, pre-programmed catch phrases ready to roll off their tongues were able to launch those phrases. But then they responded to how others reacted, and were able to moderate their stance during later statements. Moderation, instead of escalation, is a major improvement.

Vernon did an excellent job of organizing this discussion. He was well prepared and really made this meet-up fun. Thanks!

good. Maybe a little too controlled, but I understand how hard it is to help Fox-heads from popping their corks.

Well, for starters, America is a Constitutional Republic with a democratically elected government. We're NOT a "democracy". Our form of government is certainly not suited for everyone -- even though we keep trying to sell it to Iraq, Afghanistan, etc., where people are not ready for something like this! Our constitution contains abiding principles -- that still apply today. Let's remember that our Constitutional liberties spawned the society that created the greatest country in the world!

This is what I have been looking for. However, a severe illness to my 4 year old granddaughter in Prague will keep me there from now until at least then.

Hi Vernon & Kitty! During the hiatus of this group, I'm now on a weekly Monday night bowling league. Rats! I've so loved your stimulating conversational topics. Oh well, that's life!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
