ZEDS Members Write-up: Is blogging for me?

Learn the value of setting a up a blog for you as a writer. This isn't about the technology, but rather the process, the potential and the piles of money you won't make in the wide world of blogging.

Attendees will:

• Learn why people blog and why it might be the right medium for you

• Develop a blog idea in class that you can really stick with

• Practice writing for the web and learn how it differs from other genres of writing

>Interested in attending but can't make Sunday afternoons? Let us know! You may be in good company and we can schedule a weekday or Saturday event.

Write-up is usually limited to 6  ZEDS Members, but we're opening this one up a little bigger thanks to big interest!

Please remember to change your RSVP if your plans change. We like to wait for everyone before we get the Write-Up started, but we also want to respect peoples' urge to start writing!

Have a ZEDS Spring membership? Come join us! Not a member yet? You can buy your membership when you get to the write-up (cash or credit). Please note this is a member's only perk! If you're not yet a member and not ready to take the plunge, please check out upcoming classes of The Joke and Wit & Writing.

Hi all! Here's an interesting post that encourages bloggers to blog every day for a couple of reasons: http://my.storycartel.com/blog-...

(That being said, don't fret if that sounds terrible to you: it's just one way to approach the blogging world).

Although it was the goal to write daily for a year, I quit when life got weird and made it just under 6 months. Here's a link:

There are a few more recent posts on top. Forgive the typos!

I'm glad I attended, thanks Zoey. I have also changed my blog topic three times so I guess I might have something to talk about about. Pondering...just have to actually write...

You're very welcome! Try to tackle just one subject at a time. You might want to start with a summer blogging project (give yourself 3 months or 100 days of blogging, for example) and that can serve as a trial of the most intriguing subject for you. (Plus, there's an end which can be motivating and a relief!)

Commonly, people abandon their blogs because they don't know what else to say or because they set unrealistic expectations for their own time. Keep that in mind, and remember it oughta be fun, and go for it!

Way back in 2008, the CBC radio program, Spark, had a series of interviews with blog guru Merlin Mann. MP3 recordings of those interviews are still available. The prolog to this series was broadcast in mid-September 2008. He gives the one critical thing he thinks is essential in order to blog.

I am interested in a more intensive 3 hour workshop to assist my writing =) (re: what we discussed at this meeting). I guess my main issue would be organizing my thoughts.

Thanks Leanne! Too many thoughts will be a good thing once we find a way to organize them. Will keep you apprised of workshop plans!

Zoey, you've got me thinking about another blog now and given me a shot of blogging adrenaline. Can you help me with my exercise program too? My blog: http://touchofhumor.wordpress.c... Nice to meet everyone today. Would love to check out your blogs.

Excited to bring the infectiousness of blogging unto you all! Anyone have a blog they've started but haven't kept up? We'll have a fix for that.

I've been blogging since 2007. For 7 years I did a group blog with 4 other women. We shut down in January -- getting older, other priorities, etc., so I switched to a WordPress blog on my own, where I blog on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I love working with WordPress.
