September New Moon Journey

"Franklin's Last Song"

Seven Pounds or

So of Fluff

In my arms

Yesterday afternoon

Took flight

Of this World

As we sat

In the Vet

Hoping, I am

For a pardon

Some transfusion

That might save

It seems You

Have other plans

So gently

I am led

To a quiet

yet Lively room

to sit with you

As you decide

With Three

Chinchillas attending

Sacred Witness

To Our Last

Minutes together

As you struggle

To leave

Your tired tired

Body For

Stars and Places

Unknown

To me

 You fearlessly

Leap into the Unknown

One second here

The next gone

I hold your

precious body

Not quite sure

If part of you

Lingers

As I look

Up I see two

Of the chinchillas

Hug each Other

knowing ...

The Other one

Closes his Eyes

Brings his little

Paws together

Bows his head

Am I imagining this?

I think not

These older species

Much more aware

Of ancient rhythms

The Sacred Mystery

Is well known

To those

We call merely "animals"

They know

As do I

That something

Exquisite has happened

Here

Even in my grief

I know

Franklin chose

No tubes

No saline

No transfusion

No interference

In the natural

Process

We humans so

Fear - He chose

To go

In his way

In his time

I am honored

To witness

And hold

This beloved Feline

The last in a lineage

Of cats

beginning with Gandalf

Thirty Five

Years ago

When I was married

Climbing into

our car

After a gig

In the parking

Lot by the woods

The marriage

Long since gone

Yet the lineage

continued

Mixed in

With quite a few

Rescues

From the streets

Of this college town

Where cats are

Routinely

Left  when

Learning is done

To fend for themselves.

Franklin's Mother

Was one such

Cat

Found on a cold

Winter's Eve

She found a home

In my son's arms

"Little Miss"

We called her

As we hoped

to find her owners

Never did

She stayed

Twenty years

Leaving her body

Last September

With Franklin

Tending to her

Franklin

Who started

His life with

A Cat tribe of

Four elders

And since

Last September

Just him

And his

Akita enemy

Sometimes a Friend

As I walk tonight

I feel him

Hear his

Familiar "meow"

Out steps

A black cat

In the alley

Behind myself

I stop

Totally transfixed

Is it Franklin?

As I ask this

I immediately hear

"No it is not me

But I am walking with you

Enjoying

Seeing your world

As You walk

I want to say

Thank you

and assure you

That I know

How much you

Loved me

I know

You think

You did not do enough

But Yes

Enough always

I was well loved

By you

Now the Akita

That's another story

I am sure

We will all meet again

Go walk your

Walk now

In Peace

You know

You always say it

"I've just changed forms"

I am as close as

I have always been

Touch my fur now

One last time

My parting gift

To you"

I reach out

And yes

For one brief instant

I feel his soft fur

And his "purr"

With that He is gone

Leaving a starry trail

In the sky

I cry again

But it is a good cry

Knowing

The All that is essential

Remains

Here in my Heart

Gentle Franklin

Returning to Love

In Love

Go in Joy

My beautiful kitty

I will look for you

Each Night

Beloved Franklin

Say Hi to

All my other Friends

In Deepest Love and Remembrance

For Franklin who

transitioned on Monday the 26th of September

at 4:45 p.m.

Christine
