Let's Learn Python!

Python is powerful... and fast

Fans of Python use the phrase "batteries included" to describe the standard library, which covers everything from asynchronous processing to zip files. The language itself is a flexible powerhouse that can handle practically any problem domain. You can build your own web server in three lines of code, how's that for awesome? It's a superb language for teaching programming, both at the introductory level and for more advanced, so no matter where you are coming in at, Python is a great language to know.

Class Dates:

Monday March 4th 6:30pm - 8:30pm

Monday March 11th 6:30pm - 8:30pm

What type of format do I have to send my homework?

    • Francesca

Send it to [masked] as a python file. It should have a .py file extension.

I would like to send either Molly or Francesca, or both, some homework that I have done. To whom should I send it and to what e-mail address?

Do the instructors have any books that they recommend? These could be ones for the beginning Python programmer and those who are more experienced. I have found "The Quick Python Book, Second Edition" by Naomi Ceder excellent for the beginner.

The two that I like are Learn python the hard way and Think python: how to think like a computer scientist. But in my experience writing code and doing exercises is more helpful than reading a book when learning a new language.

(also both the books I suggested are free online)

I agree with Amelia. The course is very good. Hats off to both Francesca & Molly for presenting the material in a manner that both experienced and novice programmers can us.

I would like to join your class. what type of computer do I need to get started?

    March 1, 2013

    • Francesca

Any type of computer will work, we find in general that we have the fewest problems with macs, but we should be able to work with any setup.
