Marine Math and Science Academy on the near west side of Chicago is hosting a Hack Day and needs volunteers to help their students use App Inventor. Please contact Amy Ellifritz ([address removed]) to volunteer.
More information from Amy is included below:
We would like to schedule Hack Day for Saturday, February 1st. We can be flexible with the date if we need to be! Our building is located at 145 S. Campbell Ave on Chicago's near west side. We would love to have anywhere from 3 to 8 professionals in the field to help guide us all through the process.
Here is a link to App Inventor, the software we will be using for all of our upcoming projects: http://appinventor.mit.edu/explore/ It's extremely user friendly, but the girls have never seen anything like it before. They will be using a step-by-step guide to create different apps and then hack them. The instructions they will follow on Hack Day are posted here: http://iridescentlearning.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Tutorial-Instructions4.pdf The instructions have not been updated to follow exactly the software, which was recently updated, and so that will be a challenge for us all. Students will also have questions to answer as they work through the tutorials, which are posted here: http://iridescentlearning.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Tutorial-Questions.pdf

The main point, as I understand it, is just to get the girls familiar with the ease of using App Inventor. A week after our Hack Day, we will dive right in and start creating apps with what we've learned during hack day
