Founder, Women FOR Living in Community Network and more

Asheville, NC

Organizer since:

August 17, 2009

What does your ideal community look like in it's physical form?

A small village near a town that offers green living and small cottages. Communal space for sharing, and all the spaces use universal design so we can age in our community with our friends and chosen family. Services are close proximity. Or A shared house with others. Both use the tools of Dynamic Governance, Blueprint of We, Non Violent Communication (NVC), and The Connection Practice to assist us with getting along in harmony.

What are the values you would like to have in common with others?

A zest for life and growth and giving back. Courage, desire for learning, interdependence, resiliency, honesty, integrity, ease, intensity, risk taking Fun, and a sense of humor. Crazy and zestful living!

What motivates you to want this experience?

Desire to live in and around others as I move forward into my 2nd Half of Life. Provide alternatives to the current living situations that exist for mature adults. Live with others I care about and mutual support. To be in a community that we manage.

What do you have to contribute to the community?

Desire to facilitate change, like putting the pieces together, seeing the big picture, bringing joy, adding humor, and making connections. Persistence and drive coupled with leadership and knowledge of the market for Boomers. Facilitation organization and leadership skills. Community building skills, Sr. Cohousing Facilitation training, core groups participation, knowledge of Asheville and National housing alternatives.

Profile of you. Tell us about you. What would you like us to know about you?

My mission and purpose at this point in my life is to "Create places for growing older in grace and dignity with laughter and zest." I want to inspire, cajole and NUDGE others, especially Boomer women to take action to live in and around others in whatever community model appeals to them. My desire is to be a spokesperson, magnet or trailblazer to make alternative models for us to live in in our 2nd and 3rd Acts. I have worked and persisted with this goal, by educating myself, others and continually putting the goal of women as advocates and the movers and shakers that are going to make this happen for ourselves. I founded this Meet Up in 2009 to connect us in the Asheville area and my website for this purpose. Currently, I am looking for support and leadership to assist in forming models/groups in this local area.

I champion alternative housing choices for women who want to experience camaraderie, connection and more confidence in their later years. My passion is bringing groups and individuals to the realization that community is the solution.

What Marianne K. is saying about this Meetup Group

Consistent in combining social connection with information so we can take action before we are too old!!! Many new faces and energy. Coming together to meet others and carry on those friendships after and between the Meet Ups with like minded others to form those relationships that will allow community to flourish.
