Ruby Study Group

Are you learning Ruby and looking for other women to study with? Do you have a project you'd like to collaborate on? Are you just beginning your Ruby journey and would like some help getting started? ...Join us!!

Schedule for July 31, 2013:

6:30-7:00 Sign-in, grab food, setup workspace, mingle
7:00-7:30 Rails Best Practices, "Single Responsibility Principle": Desi McAdam, Managing Director at Thoughtbot
7:30-7:45 Ruby project presentations by three gSchool Graduates: Erin Drummond, Jennifer Eliuk, and Laura Steadman
7:45-8:30 Focused individual project time, assistance available

Individual Project Time: This is a self-directed session where you can work through your latest project, tutorial, or book. Bring your current project and work on it, collaborate, or get some help.

Newbies are welcome!: If you're brand-spakin-new, just show up and we'll get you started at tryruby.org and other free resources. :) This will be an inclusive work session where we can spend some time upgrading our own skills and helping each other build theirs. From experts to beginners, all are welcome.

What to bring: Your computer and something to work on. (Contact us if you want some suggestions; we're happy to help!)

Where: We are hosted at local tech company, iTriage (learn about them in this recent article), in downtown Denver at 1500 Wynkoop St. Suite 500. (Fun fact: iTriage uses Ruby on Rails!)

Food: iTriage is sponsoring a nice spread of food and beverages. If you have special dietary needs, please contact Rylee. (Be sure to RSVP so we know how much food to order!) :)

Questions: If you have any questions, please comment in the event or contact Rylee directly ([masked]). Thanks!

As I mentioned elsewhere, I hosed my laptop in time for class, and I reiterate my apology here.

I apologize for the late notice, but I need to cancel for tonight. I made the enormous mistake of using tasksel to install LAMP services on my 12.04 laptop. It's now hosed. With no laptop, I can't see how I can attend this evening. Again, my apologies to the group.

Hey Rylee - Sorry to have to miss this month's study group! I'm taking the intermediate RoR class at DaVinci, and it meets on MWF nights. Is the switch to Wednesday evenings a permanent one?

    July 23, 2013

    • Rylee

Not permanent! Had to move it to Wednesday this month because of schedule conflicts. I'll move it back to Tuesday or Thursday next month. Have fun at class!! :)

Our local Rocky Mountain Ruby conference is coming up soon! There is a great line-up of speakers for the conference, held September 25-27 in Boulder, CO. The organizers are excited to offer a scholarship program to bring new people to the conference and asked that I extend the invite to our study group. Please visit http://rockymtnruby.com/ to learn about the conference. To apply for a scholarship, please visit http://tinyurl.com/2013rmros to complete the application form. Let me know if you have any questions! :)

Thank you for a warm welcome, Rylee..., I'm pleased w/ DaVinci Coders offers in a range from early, mid-, or late-career entry points to programming. Then to find a great support network like this - WIC... ! Joanne's pres, Mike's pres & the WIC particip's -- wow.. defin worth the drive from Lakewood/ Golden area to Boulder....
