(Boulder) Gnip Data Science Arduino Night

(This evening is meant for coders with some experience.  However, beginners are welcome - it's a great way to get exposed to programming!)

Back by popular demand!  After rave reviews from Denver, we're bringing this evening of fun to Boulder!

Brought to us by the Data Science team at Gnip, this exciting evening includes arduinos, social data, python, flashing lights, mini robotic arms, and lots of fun.  Prepare to get your hands dirty, and learn how to connect tiny robots to tweets!

Agenda

6:00-6:15 - Grab some dinner and chat to awesome ladies

**6:15-6:30 - Welcome and housekeeping (**Note: we start early for this one to have enough time!)

6:30-8:00 - Project with the Data Science team from Gnip.  Learn more about Gnip at www.gnip.com

Drinks will be provided by Gnip
Pizza will be provided by ThoughtBot

Please Note: This group is only open to people that identify as women. Emphatically queer- and trans-friendly.

Thanks Connie, for input.. and Sepideh for reminding us of Raspberry Pi -- to inspire a love of engineering & circuitry ... I read a bit more about the RaspPi,..& enjoyed the inventor's perspectives on children lacking opportun's to see "how things work" with computers & programming :

AWESOME...! Huge thanks to SparkFun & Gnip for collabs to ensure an eve of learning & intrigue ....! Glad I sat next to Kim-- benefitting from her Electr-Engin mastery.. wow..

Thank you SparkFun, & Pamela,... for the generous gifting of the electronics kits... Thank you Gnip Team, Brian, Scott, et.al.... Your guidance, incredible.. !

Experts... please also NAME HERE any additional versatile & sturdy electronics / robotics kits that help K-16'ers experience STEM & laws engineering with their own eyes, ears & hands...

We want to ask for a variety of similar EE/robotics kits in our grant budget... please recommend the best of what you've come across....

Chatted w Scott afterwards, about changes we may need to make to standard K-16 MATH training,.. the concept of increasing Statistics came up. Big Data, small data, & everything in between helps us convert highly powerful info about our projects, our clients, financial markets & our world.

I think it is best that I stay home and not share the sore throat I picked up somewhere. Have a blast!!

Male alert... because this session is a "Makers"... and "Hands-On" session -- I'm hopeful that you will welcome a male V.P., "Dave," from aerospace tech - Superior/Boulder... he's my one & only collaborating planner for my K-12 STEM charter school, who could attend this evening. We "planners" are trying to attend as many "maker fair" sessions as possible to connect with STEM tech & electronic suppliers that help us understand "How Things Work".. We must understand which "key parts" to specify for K-12 school funds-- as we write our grant fund applications & other planning documents. Thank you in advance for understanding HIS attendance will expand opportunities for young girls & young women...and will help us stretch toward our 50 : 50 goals by 2020..! Our K-12 population will be co-ed STEM.

Hey ladies, are there any possibilities for Gluten-Free pizza/beer? :)

Hey! I work at SparkFun Electronics and can sponsor Arduinos and parts for this event for everyone to take home if there is any interest. Also, if you need an extra helper for technical support I can help too. Figure I would ask just in case the parts were not order yet or if the GNIP team wanted more parts to give out. :)

Looks like a lot of fun. Can't wait!

Hi Pamela, That would be wonderful! We've got about 5 or 6 at Gnip that we bring and have the ladies split into groups (and some LEDs and little robotic arms too). I'm sure they would LOVE to have more available to play with! Please email me at kweiss (at) gnip (dot) com. I'd love to chat further! Thank you so much!
