Data Science Study Group

In an article in Fortune titled "The hot tech gig of 2022:Data Scientist", Jessi Hempel wrote "By the end of the decade 50 billion devices will be emitting information nonstop. Data scientists will help manage it all." "The coming deluge of data...will create demand for a new kind of computer scientist - a gig that's one part mathematician, one part product-development guru, and one part detective."

If this sounds interesting to you, join our Data Science Study Group. We will work on a mix of general concepts, emerging technologies and data science-specific coding in various languages (R, Python, Octave, SQL, etc.).

All levels of experience are welcome and a collaborative learning environment will be fostered.

This is the first Data Science study group. Thank you to Jennifer Brendle for starting and leading this study group!

I enjoyed meeting other women from all aspects of life/career interested in the same thing. And it's a great place to make connections for jobs! Also learned about different tips on either how to proceed in coding or online material. Full of great mentors!

Hey I'll have to catch you ladies next time. I'm excited to show you some of the fun stuff I'm working on in Python and some tricks for that boring (but essential) task of scrubbing data. I'm also excited to start leading R!

All, just a reminder to please complete the survey at by tomorrow night . We have 17 responses so far, thanks! We'd like everyone's opinion to help determine the future topics, days, location, etc. for our group.
    See you Saturday!

All, I corrected an issue with the survey that was limiting responses to the first question. We've only had a few surveys submitted, so it shouldn't impact the results too significantly, but if you'd like to resubmit your survey that's ok too.

Hi Everyone, I'm very excited about the response to the Data Science Study Group. In order to focus discussion during our first meeting (and to have a data set because we are data geeks), I created a short survey. Please try to complete it before 10 PM on 8/15 and I'll bring the results to our meeting on Saturday! It's at

I'm so sad to have to miss this. I'm leaving town that day. Hopefully it will be a huge success and will happen again!

I love sorting through massive amounts of data to find relevance. ;) (That might sound sarcastic, but it wasn't.) Can't wait!

Hi All, I'm really excited about this group. I have many years in system design and development and part of it was financial analytics for telecom. I loved the analytics part, so I'm excited to see analytics booming.
