Hello ladies of the Peninsula and South Bay!
Let's bring some events down here again, eh?
This organizer meetup is the first step in getting the ball rolling.
WHO THIS IS FOR:
Women Who Code members based in the South Bay/Peninsula who are interested, and willing, to help organize our offshoot group. If you already expressed interest in the past, please show up if you can - this is going to be a new start.
If you have ideas or connections but are too busy to commit to organizing, I completely understand - ping me (jennielees at gmail), leave a comment, or show up anyway with your contribution! :)
If you want to help but can't make this time or venue, let me know; we can figure out a way to either dial you in or catch you up. Sorry for the conflict with SF events, I have limited availability as I'm travelling!
WHAT WE NEED HELP WITH:
In decreasing order of urgency:
- finding venues (I have left Google, so I can't use that any more, but other Googlers should be able to)
- food and drink sponsorship
- study group leaders
- tech talk speakers
- handling partnerships for other events/contributions
- special event organizing (hackathons, outreach, K-12, etc)
I'd also love it if someone hyper-organized could help with coordinating the group, as I have a lot on my plate right now. :-)
By attending this meetup you're not committing to becoming an organizer on the spot. I'll talk about the group and how the organization has worked (and not worked) in the past, and there'll be plenty of dialogue. And good coffee/hot choc/tea.
I picked Red Rock because it's probably going to have the space for us, and is convenient to public transport. This means I've set the RSVP cap pretty low, so please keep your RSVP up to date. If it turns out to be super busy that evening we can go to my house (2 blocks away), and I'll post here if we do move. I will be sitting upstairs with an Android Pride t-shirt and my laptop has a Mars Attacks decal.
Women Who Code hosts events which are exclusively open to those who identify as female (with an note that we're emphatically queer- and trans-friendly). Group organizers should be aligned with this mission.
Stay tuned for some cool stuff in the South Bay! :-)
