  • This is a free off-shoot program that will cover Android development and is perfect for ramping up on Android and learning with a group. Attendees will be a mix of software engineers and those with limited experience in programming looking to learn Android in an awesomely intensive- immersive peer learning environment. Java experience is definitely helpful, but if you're dedicated you can do it!

CodePath offers a free 8 week Android mobile dev boot camp, structured for accelerated learning. While the on-site version of this course is geared toward already experienced programmers with an extensive background in CS and/or software development, an observer track is also offered as an alternative to the fast-paced, “sink or swim” on-site learning. Observers will remotely work on the same weekly projects as the students who attend the class in-person. This Meetup group is an organization point for student programmers participating in the CodePath boot camp observer track. This forum will allow us to learn from each other as we tackle the programming assignments together, just like the students in the on-site track. We welcome all those who are eager to learn Android development.

All genders are welcome to join this intensive Android study Group and mentors are encouraged to attend.

I see that this event is listed as cancelled, but I'm wondering if it was only cancelled as a WWC SF event and if anyone attended. Did anyone attend and would you reply with what happened?

I was confirmed for the event and somehow was moved to the waitlist later. I wonder what happened?

How does one join the observer track? Is that separate from rsvp-ing for this meeting, or is rsvp-ing for this event how one joins?

Is there a breakdown by week of the material to be covered? Without clear direction, it occurs to me to start with the first topic and progress down.

Finally, will this meetup be every Thursday for the next 8 weeks?

Right now you have to apply to codepath to be an observer as we are piloting this with codepath observers. Once kinks are worked out it will be made available to the public. I left those who were not in our group to determine the level of interest. Sorry, this wasn't clear.

How do you apply to CodePath to be an 'observer'? I saw one mention of observer online -- https://github.com/mar... -- but nothing descriptive.

I think something strange is happening with the sign ups. I noticed open slots, but folks on the waiting list weren't moved into them. Later registrants seemingly leapfrogged over them. (I may have been one of the leapfroggers.)

I hope that you, Marie Antoinette-LeDonne, can see the actual timestamps of the signup and fix the queuing. A group of us were talking about this in our Java class last night (at City College SF), and those who were stuck in waitlist limbo didn't know what to do.

Have you guys been receiving your Google group emails? Please turn on your notifications. Are you all codepath observers?

Coming up from San Jose, was going to try Caltrain for the first couple of weeks and see how it goes. Fast train get you into SF at 6.25pm..getting home is a different story.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
