Python Study Group - Session Two!

  • February 1, 2012 · 7:00 PM

Thanks all for the enthusiasm with the Python kick off!

Session two will review and build upon what we saw in session one. Same place, same time, same channel:

Timeline:
7pm - food/noms/mingle courtesy of Dropbox
7:30pm - start working through a guided lesson/tutorial
10pm - go home and sleep!

It will be a similar format:
n00bs and I will work through problems and a lesson using Twitter's API.  I will adapt the lessons for better understanding for the group this time.  Thank you for your feedback!

L33ts - If you have a Python project you'd like to hack, we have space for you with the conference rooms!

Those interested in mentoring - I will be bugging you in the near future to help me with these lessons.  If you were unable to come to the kickoff but are interested in mentoring, please message me!

You will find the wiki for this series here: http://wwc.sporst.web...

You will find the google group here (so we as a group can continually email each other):http://groups.google....

Please invite yourself to the group and I will add you manually.

This is on the wiki, but Session One slides are here: https://docs.google.c...

Great experience to get the basics of python down and then play around with it a bit on your own while others are there to help!

Thanks folks for last night! Here is a little Twitter/Python humor - a script written in Python to detect those who are drunk tweeting in Chicago: http://dabeaz.blogspot.com/2012/01/drunk-tweeting-in-chicago.html

Suffice it to say, this took way too long to get to post in python http://mobile.twitter.com/yosunchang/status/164942690369282049 (nostalgic for php and abraham's lib)

Got to BART a little later than intended this morning. I should be there in about 15 minutes for anyone showing up early.

@Lori - I'll probably drop by Rackspace for lunch - and maybe hang out there a bit longer if it's not too awkward to be hacking php or js there and not python (like everyone else)?

Candace-it's the same wiki link as above in the event info; I will maintain it regularly for these exact instances of people not being able to attend for whatever reason.

Had to give up my place because of other plans, but is there any way you can post/msg me with a link to tomorrow's curriculum so I can show up to the next one prepared?

I'll be there! Might not be there right at 9 since I'll have to make my usual detour for coffee first. :)

I was planning on heading in when it opened (assuming no BART delays, that is). Always nice to have a change of workspace now and then.

Lori that's not a bad idea! When were you thinking of actually showing up to Rackspace's event?

  • Carina C. Z.

Lori, thanks for bringing attention to that!

Hey, anyone want to meet ahead of time at Rackspace's python event and code until it's time to head over to Dropbox?

Ignore that the Meetup says the Rackspace event starts at 7pm. It actually starts at 9am! :D

Awesome, I'm a quite a fan of Hilary Mason and knew about her through a machine learning video with O'Reilly. She's also part of http://datawithoutborders.cc/, which is inspiring. Thank you, Lynn and Dropbox.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
