Holy cr@p - you have a technical interview coming up. Where does one start to study & practice?!

Join Women Who Code (Silicon Valley branch) and Facebook to flesh out your technical interviewing skills, seek advice, and practice for coding on those big scary whiteboards.

We'd like to ensure that the attendees are genuinely interested in brushing up on interview skills, so this event is open to current engineers as priority! Sorry to those who are just learning to code. Feel free to bring your resume for critique, but this is an interview focused workshop so our individual mentors will not be going in-depth on the application part of the process.

Please note: This event is for women, and those who identify as being a woman. Emphatically trans- and queer-friendly.

Timeline:

6:00p - 6.15p arrive/ mingle (check in at Lobby 15)

6.15p dinner/ more mingling

7:00p Resume presentation with Q & A by Kendra Arimoto
7:30p Interview presentation by Poornima Vijayashanker
7:45p Break into small groups for hands-on and 1:1 practice, with mentors from Facebook, Google and more.
9:00p Beauty rest!

(We also recommend the book Cracking the Coding Interview by Gayle Laakman McDowell, who recently spoke about it at a Women Who Code interviewing workshop in SF!)

Are you an interviewer?

We are looking for more experienced technical interviewers from the WWC community to help out at the event! The more we have, the more 1:1 support we can provide to the group. Email womenwhocodesv at gmail if you can help out, and thanks to those who are already volunteering!

NOTE: This is a space limited event and we are relying on a full turnout to make the most of our generous hosts' time and resources - please keep your RSVP up to date. A reminder will be sent closer to the event date.

PLEASE ARRIVE BETWEEN 6PM - 6.15 PM if you would like to join us for dinner.

Hi everyone, Does anyone have any notes or slides from the event? I wasn't able to make it and would love to get a re-cap from folks who attended. From what I hear, it was a really productive meet-up!

It was insightful, fun, and extremely useful. It's definitely one of the most valuable meetups I've attended, because it not only involves talks, but actually incorporates one-to-one (or one-to-group) practice interviews. Thank you for the great event.

Hi Nikila, I'm hoping to be there at least by 6:15pm but never know how traffic will be. What should we do if we arrive a bit after 6:15pm? Thanks!

    November 7, 2012

    • Nikila S.

Hi Grace, totally understand, traffic can be intense on 101. We're asking that folks be there by 6.15 since we will require the assistance of FB employees to escort people back and forth from the cafe. You'll still be able to check in at the lobby and attend the event. Thanks and look forward to seeing you there!

Hello attendees, If you would like to join us for dinner, please arrive at the venue between 6 pm and 6.15 pm, so we can coordinate escorting you between the Facebook cafe and the event room. Thank you!

I live near the venue. I'm happy to meet some folks at either Menlo Park or Redwood City Caltrain and transport.
The RC caltrain is a major station, I'm not sure how many trains stop at Menlo.

Is anybody else carpooling from SF tmrw? or would anyone be interested in splitting a cab from the caltrain station? If i can't find a carpool to join, I'll be arriving at caltrain around 5.34 pm at Menlo park station

Does anybody have a video camera? Might be very useful to tape mock interviews so people can look at their own performance later.

I'll bring my flip cam too with a tripod.

Hi, I am on the waiting list and would like to know is there a chance to get in? thanks!

    October 31, 2012

    • Jennie

The waiting list is displayed on Meetup in order of priorities and so it looks like you are 4th! There is usually a high chance of people near the top getting in thanks to drop-outs, and I am encouraging everyone to keep their RSVPs up to date.
