Women's Javascript Study Group

  • Mar 27, 2013 · 6:30 PM

Apologies, tonight's presentation on Angular.js has been rescheduled to next week.

If anyone else would like to give a short presentation please volunteer. :)

We're a group of women who want to learn JavaScript together. We welcome people of all levels, but beginners are especially encouraged. You move at your own pace in this group, so it doesn't matter if you are a fast or slow learner, or if you attend every week.

We meet every Wednesday, 6:30 - 9pm. Free (non-pizza) dinner included, with gluten-free and vegetarian options.

Please be punctual - if you will be later than 6:45pm, please skip the group. We have to come down to the lobby to get latecomers, so it's disruptive to dinner and coding to do so.

Our meetings begin with yummy food catered by our host, Zoosk, and we eat with Zoosk employees (some of whom can answer JS questions!). Afterwards, we have a short discussion or a presentation on a related topic when scheduled, then all hop on our laptops and work on JavaScript tutorials and help each other when we get stuck. Most of us are using, but we welcome other tools. Although the focus is on JavaScript, we also cover closely related topics such as HTML and CSS.

(The only tools you need to start using JavaScript are a web browser and optionally a simple text editor or code editor.)

Thanks to Zoosk, our wonderful sponsor, for the food, space, and support.

Our entrance is to the right of the Blick Art Supply Store on Market Street, one block southwest of Powell Street BART and the Westfield Mall. If you're afraid of the dark, no worries -- we can all walk to BART/Muni together afterwards. Just go on in (or knock if it's locked), and a friendly Zoosker (Beth or Kristin) will meet you in the lobby.

PS - If you want to come but don't have a laptop, just RSVP with a note and we'll try to find one for you.

This event is exclusively open to people who identify as female.

Tonight's planned presentation on Angular.js has been rescheduled to next week. If anyone else would like to give a short talk that would be great!

Any topic tangentially related to JavaScript is fine. If you just want to share a cool project or experiment you tried that's great too. :)

By the way, although the study group is open only to women, men are welcome to give presentations as a guest speaker. :)

Something has come up and I won't be able to make it. Please give my seat to the next person on the wait list. Thanks.

I won't be able to make it tonight, so someone on the waiting list can take my spot! Hope to be there next week.

Hello, everybody. I have started to learn JS and php. However, I live in Maryland. Do you maintain any activities via online? share vedio or slides?

We don't currently have anything online other than the Meetup group information. We hope to eventually put up a website to better share information. Once we do, we will update the Meetup description to include a link.
