Women's Coding Collective at the Innovation Center's Venture Cafe

On January 21st, Women in Cambridge celebrates the New Year at the Cambridge Innovation Center (where else?). We will meet at the most talked about spot in town, the CIC’s Venture Cafe to hear from one of our favorite (and most innovative) Cambridge businesses–Web Start Women.

The CIC is a working environment that has become an international model for incubating innovation, start up’s and business collaboration. Boasting “more start ups than anywhere else on the planet,” CIC has been growing steadily beyond its original walls.

At the heart of the CIC experiment is Venture Cafe, a nonprofit, actual cafe-styled space where CIC members gather throughout the week to work. On Thursday evenings every week, Venture Cafe also becomes an event that brings together CIC members and an international crowd to encourage the sharing of ideas and resources. As guests of Revolution Capital, Women in Cambridge will take over the cafe on this Tuesday evening and open our discussion up to folks throughout the CIC.

We can’t think of a better featured business for the evening than the Women's Coding Collective. If you have not seen their MeetUp page yet, take a look. Started by Nicole Noll and Susan Buck to give women in web design and coding the chance to get together, WCC now provides a rotating series of classes for everything from “wrangling HTML” to creating an online portfolio for beginners. At only $20 to $25 for a class, WCC has become the favorite destination for women in and around Cambridge who want to tackle web projects of all sorts. And WCC’s free project nights are one of the city’s best kept secrets.

Join us on January 21st, and bring a friend, for an insider’s tour of the innovative heart of Cambridge.

Hi all, just wanted to follow up with a couple bits of info for those who may be interested: 1) WCC's next project night is scheduled for February 6th (details: http://www.meetup.com/wcc-boston/events/145622212/)--it's full, but jump on the waiting list if you are interested, spots almost always open up; 2) the link to the materials we use to introduce the wonders of HTML and CSS to kids can be found at http://thewc.co/s/ggd-jan-2014; 3) if you have WCC-related questions, you can reach me at [masked]. Thanks so much for letting us join you last week! It was great to meet everyone. =)

Ladies, thank you so much for putting this on. Unfortunately, I'll be missing tonight's event due to the crazy commute home I just had and the NE weather! I have yet to meet your members, but I would love to reach out to those registered for this event to introduce http://www.allustria.com, as well as, extend a discount to those looking to have a website designed for themselves or their small business. I will take down a list of those registered and reach out to them directly via email and will also contact you about setting up a sponsorship for Women in Cambridge! Thanks again and I wish you have a fantastic event!

P.S. If anyone needs a nudge off the fence to take any of the classes that Women's Coding Collective has to offer, I'm your girl! I have had the privilege of taking several of their courses and have loved them all, especially their jQuery course. After trying 2 other classes on the subject, theirs in the only one that made sense and was fun and easy to learn. I highly recommend them!

Unfortunately I won't be able to make it either. I'm still at work (in Lexington) and traffic is super slow. :-(

I'm really disappointed not to make it either, I was really looking forward to it :(. I am going to look into Women's Coding Collective - the SEO class looks like just what I need! :)

Hi everyone, we just wanted to give you a heads up that there will be a snow storm street parking ban in Cambridge starting at 8pm tonight, so be sure to either take the T, park in the One Broadway garage, or leave right before 8pm! We look forward to seeing everyone tonight!

Hi Pavlina, Not a problem! We usually do the 10 minute intros at 6:45 for just that reason. We'll save you some wine and cheese. :)

Hi - It looks from the Women's Coding Collective Meetup group like this event got moved to January 9th. I can't make that date, unfortunately.

    • Nicole N.

Hi Kristin, this Women in Cambridge event on the 21st is a separate event from the 2014 Kickoff the WCC is having on Thursday, January 9th.

    • Kristin Z.

      My apologies!
